DeShawn Perkins, now seventeen, continues to worry about his family and his life; however, due to meeting up with a new friend, things suddenly look a lot better for Shawn and his family.

DeShawn Perkins here.

Thought I'd update you on what's been goin' down with me, well me, as well as my family.

I'm afraid things still remain about the same.  No more killings since that baby was gunned down a few months back, thank goodness; however, I still feel bad for that kid's family.  That kid didn't have to die in the way he did; he was only a baby; what did he do to deserve to be killed like that??

I just don't understand people sometimes....

The streets continue to teem with gang activity and druggies; therefore, we don't go out much at night.  We just stay holed up in our apartment and do a lot of heavy duty praying.  God must be listening because we're still here.

My sister Q'uirionka is still suffering from the mental anguish since nearly being raped; she has nightmares just about every night.  My other sisster, QuaNeesha, also has nightmares about rats; she just completed her cycle of shots in the belly, and her face is just about healed from when the rat bit her.

Granny, meanwhile, hasn't been attacked; however, she won't go outside; she just stays in.  I have to go to the store or take care of errands for her.  I do help her with my sisters, but to see granny reduced to a quaking ball of fear is nothing short of disturbing!

I am still working at the pizza joint; when I do, granny watches over Qui'rionka and Neesha; I also have my big friend, Goon, who weighs about 600 pounds, watch over the apartment floor we live on, so nobody breaks in or messes with my family. With Goon around, I can rest a little easier; I know people would be stupid to mess around with someone who's as big as a refrigerator and weighs as much as a grizzly bear!

Goon is 7'5 1/2" tall.  He's a big dude.  Mammoth!!

I met him last month at the park while me and my homeboyz were skateboarding; we hit it right off.  Goon may be big, but underneath all that big, hulking exterior, he has the personality of a lamb: he wouldn't hurt a thing!

My granny and my sisters love Goon; in fact, they love him so much, we think of him as an honorary member of my family.  In fact, we share the same last name of Perkins; we're not related, though, just good friends.  He's cool; he and I are tight!

On weeknds or on rainy days, we love to rap; we both want to be big-time rappers, make it in music.  Except our rap would be Christian rap; get the message of salvation out to the kids, ya know??  Or we just chill, fart around, act like goofballs.  LOL

Life may be scary at night, but with Goon around, we feel a lot safer.  He's the best thing that could have happened to us; maybe he could be our ticket out of this slum we live in and maybe we could move somewhere that is a lot safer for all of us!  Lord, all we can do is pray and hope!

Well, I gotta run:  Q'uorionka is calling; it's time for lunch.  Tomato soup and saltine crackers, along with ham and toasted cheese sanwiches.  Yummmm!!  Gettin' hungry just thinkin' about it!  I will write in here again when I can; until later, this is Shawn saying so long!  I'm outta here!

~Shawn.  :)

Karen,

Glad things are going a bit better for this family, wish they could move to a safer area. With Goon around, don't think anyone will mess with Shawn and his family anymore. At least I hope not. Well written!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
