Spinner Patterson lets us know what has been going on in his life; one of the biggest changes has been his uncle moving in to live with the family.
His uncle is now paralyzed from the waist on down after being injured in a tornado.

Howdy!  Spinner Regan Patterson here; hope this finds y'all well!

I am doing pretty good; however, since my uncle Twister has moved in with us, it's been very hard on our family.  It's been hardest on me 'cause he is paralyzed (that means, his legs don't work anymore; he has to use a wheelchair).  He was hurt in a tornado, and because of it, he will no longer be able to walk.  He has to use a wheelchair; it's easier.

Uncle Twister is very sad; he used to chase storms; now he will never be able to do that.  If he does go on a chase, he will have to sit in the van and watch the radar on the computer and tell the other stormchasers where the storm is and what it is going to do.  It's been very tough on him.

Sometimes he gets mad or cries.  It bothers me because he used to laugh all the time.  Now he's angry or upset, and that just isn't like my Uncle Twister!

We had a good fourth of July.  We went to see the fireworks at the park; they were pretty!  We also had a picnic lunch and saw the parade that morning, before it got to be too hot.

Hot is the word of the day here.  People are being told to stay in until it cools down, sometime in the later evening, after the sun goes down, or go out in the early morning, before the sun comes up.  The temperature has been near 100 degrees for a few days now and it might only get hotter.

A good reason to go swimming, ya know?

Sounds like a good plan of action for me!  :)  A kid's gotta keep cool during these long, hot, boring vacation days from school!

Sometimes I'm so bored I wish school could start back up tomorrow!  They're starting to get the back-to-school stuff in at our local Wal*Marts, and I can't wait to get some new school supplies!  Or some new clothes; my clothes that I have now are either too ratty looking or else they're too small for me!

When I go back to school in September, I will be in the fourth grade.  I hope my new teacher will be as nice as Ms. Rothschild, the teacher I had last year.  I just loved her so much!  She made school fun, and she never piled on too much homework!  I always got to play before I went to bed after I got my homework done, and she never gave us homework on the weekends, which was always cool!

Well, mama wants me to help Uncle Twister, so I will go now.  We will then go to church; maybe I will go up to the altar and say a special prayer to Jesus, to ask Him to heal my uncle, so he can walk and chase storms again!  I will write in here again soon; bye for now!

~Love, your Georgia friend, Spinner Regan.  :)

Twister, once I wrote about a little puppy dog that was found under the ruble after a devastating tornado that was adopted and named Twister, talking about your uncle make me suddenly remember that old story.
Maybe you can write something similar on your fourth grade?

Well Spinner sure can write for a 4th grader! I hope he gets what he wants for school etc and I hope his prayers are answered for uncle Twister. After all a stormy family needs to be on the move;-)
Great write, Karen!

Karen,

Uncle Twister can still chase. He can get a specially equipped van to accomodate his disability and fit it up with radar and computer equipment, so he can follow the storms and tell others who are more able bodied where to go and how to avoid punching the core. He would be providing a valuable, life saving service. "It's not the disability, it's the ability" - remember Dana Bowman saying that yesterday?? =] An excellent story, well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Karen this is great, but where there is a will their is a way, no one better than a mans nine year old nephew to remind him of that
