This is Jubaki Miguel Sormiento speaking. I am a 2-year-old little boy, and I love my mommy and my daddy. My mommy's name is M'buti--hmm..isn't that a funny name?--, and my daddy's name is Roberto. Their last name is Sormiento. Daddy is a nurse, and mommy stays home and takes care of me.
Guess what. I am going to be a big brother. Mommy and daddy just both told me that she has a baby growing inside her belly; but I don't see no baby. Where is the baby? Is it in her tummy button?? They seem so happy, mommy and daddy, but I don't know why they are so happy because as for me, I can't find no baby...When it comes HOW is it gonna' come? Through mommy's tummy button?
Is it just gonna' pop out of there?
I am big for my age, the big people tell me. I have curly, black hair, big, brown eyes, and look a lot like my mommy. She--mommy--is the prettiest big person I know. She is tall and skinny, and she has the prettiest brown skin; it is as brown as chocolate, and I want to taste her, she looks so good to eat!! Every time I look at mommy I seem to think of chocolate chip cookies...or fudge brownies..Daddy is not bad looking, but he is lighter than mommy, and he, too, has black hair and brown eyes. But he has big arms and legs, and his chest looks big, too. (I think he calls his arms and legs and chest "muscles.")
The big people also say I am smart. I can say some of my colors (red, green, yellow, blue, black, white), and I can count to ten. I can tell you what a doggie or a kittie is; and I can tell you what a lion is. I also know that a lion is also called a "simba" in mommy's language. I can speak both mommy's language and daddy's language. [He means Swahili and English. M'buti.] I also know what a cheetah is. A cheetah is a yellow cat with black polka dots.
I have seen cheetah. I went to a place on an airplane called Africa, and I saw cheetah there. I also saw elephants, giraffes,
and deer. [Jubaki means gazelle.] Africa was pretty, and I loved seeing my uncles again!! I also got to see my mommy's friends, and they loved me and wanted to do nothing more than to play with me. I had a lot of fun in Africa; but mommy and daddy seemed to be sad. I think it was because Unca' Serian [Keserian, my brother] was hurt by a lion and is now in a place called a hospital, where people there will make him all better. We just got back from Africa, and mommy and daddy are still sad, but it looks like Unca' Serian's boo-boos are FINALLY going to get better and go away!! I hope so!! Boo-boos are NOT FUN!!
I have met many big people, but my favorites are mommy and daddy; and I also like my Auntie Looie. [Louisiana Sandusky and her family; they have many children.] Auntie Looie has many little kids and some are as little as me, some are even LITTLER, just babies!! They are all nice, and they also have doggies, kitties, birdies, and hamsters; and they let me play with the animals. They also have big kids, and they are always laughing or singing. They are a happy bunch of people, and I love being around them!! I also like Unca' Ron [Roberto's friend, Ron, who has our cheetahs at his place; he raises and cares for exotic cats] because he has cheetah and I get to play with cheetah when we go to his place.
When I get big I wanna be a fireman and put out fires and save people from burning buildings. Or maybe a nurse like daddy.
I also want to be a good big brother to the new baby.
Now if only I could FIND the baby!......
