In 1992 Congressman John Savage telephoned Dr. James Farmer in Fredericksburg, Virginia while Carol Speed was a house guest.  After talking to Dr. James Farmer, Congressman John Savage asked to speak to Carol Speed.  Congressman John Savage mentioned to Carol Speed that there were some bed taxes due on the two rooms that Dr. James Farmer paid for at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C.  Carol Speed assured Chicago Congressman John Savage, over the telephone, that all of the bills had been paid before Dr. James Farmer was driven back to Fredericksburg, Virginia, and before she went to George Washington National Airport to fly to San Francisco with East Palo Alto City Councilwoman Mrytle Walker.  Carol Speed hung up the telephone and considered Congressman John Savage's claims foolishness.
