Why, mommy, why?
Why do birds fly so high,
high in that bright-blue sky?
why is the grass green?
why is that boy so mean?
why does he make that other boy sad?
if i were him, i'd probably be mad!!
why do people hate each other?
why can't i be more like my brother?
why does that little girl walk funny?
she sorta' hops like a little bunny!
why is grandma so old and grey?
was this always like this way?
why do little kids have to get sick,
and why do they cry when they get sticked*?
why do babies cough and sneeze;
why does uncle arthur wheeze?
why do people kill and hurt?
why do they have to treat others like dirt?
why is that lady have brown skin;
why is that lady so very thin?
why do people make fun of mr. plutz?
what does it mean; they call him a yutz?
why does that family have so many kids?
why does the wind blow off our lids?
why does the cheetah run so fast?
why doesn't the sun or cool day last?
why must it get hot again;
this hot stuff is getting to be a pain!!
what does it mean to have sex;
why, the very idea has me perplexed!
why do people have to die?
when they die, do they go up to the sky?
*stuck, as in "stuck with a needle", such as when a kid gets bloodwork or a shot.

you know how kids are: they have a thousand questions; and they often ask questions that are not easy to answer. many of these questions are often left unanswered; it is up to you to see the answer. life itself is like one big question; you often don't understand why things happen the way they do. this was the basis behind this poem. kids of different ages asking different questions. this was just one of those "random" type of poems; things just popped into my head; and i decided to make a poem out of questions i thought kids would ask. hope you enjoy!!!!
adorable!!!! TEN PLUS PLUS!!!! :) remember what daddy or mama would say when we'd ask questions? "because i said so, that's why!" or, "because that's the way God made it." :) thanks for the memories! (((HUGS))) and love, karla. :)
