I don't understand it. 

How can a child burned so badly manage to survive yet another day?  Over three weeks now since this happened, and already he's managed to overcome pneumonia, high fevers, overwhelming infections, daily surgeries and/or debridements, even stoppage of his heart/breathing.

He still survives.  He remains in the burn unit, in extremely critical condition.  It will be weeks before he is taken off the danger list; anything can happen to where he could die.

I continue to lift young Caden Drew Bollinger in my prayers.  My church (and churches around Nashville and the surrounding area) have placed this young burn victim on their prayer lists; people are rallying around him and his family as they face this incredibly hard time in their lives.

As for the young delinquents who did this to Caden, they remain in detention; they will more than likely go to prison if they are convicted.  It will be a very long time before these kids see daylight and/or freedom again, for the harm they caused this young child who didn't have to suffer in the way he did.

I am still angry at the thought of an innocent child having to go through such torture.  Every day is colored with pain in his world; there is no end to the suffering he must endure.  He really doesn't understand why this happened; what makes it worse is that the child was handicapped:  he had no way of defending himself against these teenaged thugs.

I feel horrible for his mother, Julie.  She hasn't left his side since he came to Vandy (Vanderbilt Children's Hospital); even when she could go home, she refuses to, choosing to sleep in the waiting area, in case something happens or if the doctors want to talk to her about her child.  It's really a sad situation; more than likely, Julie probably has a husband and other children at home who need her just as much as her injured son does.

What kind of Christmas will the Bollingers face?  Probably not any or much of one, the way things are looking now.  Right now, Christmas is the least of their worries.  Caden is definitely their top priority in their lives at the present time.  They will probably forgo the holiday celebrations as they continue to see how Caden will do in his recovery from his burns or latest surgery.

I only wish I can do more for this family.  All I can do at the present time is be there for them or keep them in my prayers (which I do).
