I am the world's luckiest woman. I am married to a wonderful man who would do anything (including give the shirt off his back) to help someone who is in need.
Ever since I have known him, Eddie has been a man with a generous spirit. He goes all out to ensure that people who are hurting have what they need in life: food, money, a place to stay, whatever they need, he goes out of his way to see that it happens.
Eddie just doesn't help children. He also helps adults: the elderly, the disabled, Veterans, homeless, those who lost their jobs. He hates to see anyone hurting, so he wants to give them a little blessing in his own special way.
As a child, Eddie didn't have much. When he got old enough, he got himself a job, worked hard to get ahead, and now that he's successful (he works in the law field), he wants to give back to those people who need help the most.
I like to say I married Santa Claus.
Why not? He even looks like the jolly old elf: same build, same round belly, same round glasses perched atop his nose, same long, flowing white hair (and full beard to match!), same giving, generous spirit. Eddie believes in celebrating Christmas every day of the year, not just on December 25th.
I often accompany my husband on his acts of charity. We spend a lot of time taking food, money, clothing, toys/gifts to children's hospitals or nursing homes, Veterans' hospitals, shelters where the homeless or poor stay, or going to poor areas of our city and bringing cheer to deserving people. They are often forgotten, and we want to let them know that we care for them and always will.
At first, I scoffed at my husband because he spent way too much time away from his job; now that he will be retiring in a year, he spends more time than ever "doing good" for our community. And now that I see how his generosity is helping others, I am beginning to understand the reasoning behind his mission of goodwill towards mankind.
He is living the message of Christ in his actions. Seeing that Christmas is about Christ (or should be, anyway), he is taking that message in his act of love towards others in a caring, selfless, compassionate way. He is bringing hope to people.
Well, today, Eddie is getting ready to drive to Clarksville to deliver food and toys to a children's charity; I am going to go with him. I pray we touch some deserving children's lives, and I pray that they know that they are loved. Pray we have a safe trip, and pray that the parents of these kids know that there are people who truly care for them, and not just during the Christmas holidays!
Take care and God bless! And above all, Merry Christmas! Be somebody's Santa Claus; you won't be sorry!
