A boy hopes with all of his heart that his brother, who is in the military, comes home to spend Christmas with the family.

"I'll be home for Christmas".

That was the last thing Tommy said to me before he left.  He left to go into the Marines; he wanted to fight for our country.

That was back in June.  Except for an occasional letter or e-mail from Tommy, we don't hear much from him.  I guess that's to be expected:  he's too busy fighting the enemy off in a foreign, faraway land called Iraq.

I keep hoping with all my heart that Tommy will be able to come home for Christmas.  That would be a dream come true , especially if he didn't get shot at or hurt.  Too many times on the news I hear of bad things happening to our soldiers, and it makes me sad.  And scared.  I keep praying to God to keep Tommy safe from harm.

Every day I think of Tommy.  I wonder what he's doing or what the weather is like, or if he sees any of his buddies while fighting.  I wonder what the soldiers would do if they saw the enemy or if they can speak the Iraq language.  I feel sad because he and I used to have hours of fun before he went into the Marines.

How I miss him!

I don't know what I would do if Tommy came home on crutches or with bandages wrapped around his head.  Knowing me, I'd probably cry.  Tommy and I are very close; I'd hate for anything bad to happen to him!

Mama says not for me to worry so much; Tommy knows what he's doing.  I can't help it.  I'm just a little boy of ten; I'm supposed to worry about my big military Marine brother!!

Mama says to keep praying for him; I already do that.  She says I am doing a very good job because so far, Tommy's been safe, and he's been in the Marines since June.  That's six months now.  He has three more years to go.  If he can make it without getting hurt or shot at, I'll be extremely happy!

Every time I write to Tommy, the last thing he says in our e-mails or letters is "I'll be home for Christmas".  How I wish that were true !  I'd love for him to walk through that door right now and take me in his big, strong arms!  That'd be an awesome thing!!

Until that happens, all I can do is pray that God keeps him and all of the other brave soldiers safe from the works of the enemy and come home without any worries!

Guess I will be busy tonight, praying to God and the angels above!

Your theme is universal, Karen; and I find it sad that it seems timeless as well. Nicely done as usual. Merci mon amie. Amour et paix de la C-B, Canada,
