Rat-Nose is happy that he's off from school due to Christmas break; however, he's not too happy knowing that he has to work on Christmas Day.

Rat-Nose here.  Sorry if I haven't written; school keeps me pretty well grounded, as does the homework.  And now that I am working four nights a week at Taco Cabana doing dishes, well, that keeps me hopping, too.  Some nights I don't get home before 11:30 or 11:45.

Then I found out some news:  I have to work on Christmas Day.  Christmas Day, of all days!  Yes, Taco Cabana is going to be open!!  I was not amused!!  So there goes my Christmas:  I'll spend a good part of it doing dishes; I am to be there at three in the afternoon and work til close (10 p.m.).  At least I will get to open up gifts and go to church on Christmas Eve!  I should be grateful I have a job, but dang, I don't like the thought of having to work on Christmas Day!  Talk about a major bah humbug!!

Gloria won't be coming home for Christmas.  She got in a car wreck a few weeks ago and broke her back.  She isn't paralyzed, thank God, but she faces a long, painful recovery.  Some drunken idiot ran a red light doing 50 mph and slammed into the side of her car.  It was the other person's fault.  Of course, the other person wasn't hurt.  Gloria just got out of the hospital a few days ago, so she's hurting for certain.  Will be for a while.

I was upset when I heard the news.  Even though Gloria and I don't get along a good deal of the time, I still love her, as she's my big sister.  I'm just glad it wasn't worse than it was:  she could have been killed, paralyzed, or left brain damaged.

She will just have an extremely sore back for Christmas.  Bah the humbug!!

Suddenly, working on Christmas Day doesn't seem so bad.  It beats having to get over a broken back!!

The guy who hit her faces some serious jail time, or at least time in a courtroom.  He didn't speak any English (just Chinese); he was in the country illegally, so he may end up going back to where he came from on top of everything else.  The dude is in some deep doo-doo!!

The weather here is gorgeous:  pristine azure-blue skies, soft breezes from the southwest, and temps in the upper fifties to near sixty degrees.  Just stunning out!  (Glad I am off work today; don't know how I managed to get today off, but I did!)

Well, the phone is ringing, so I will be going to answer it.  I might be going to a Christmas party later on with some friends; if not, maybe to church; they're having a Christmas program tonight.  I will write in here again soon; until then, this is Rat-Nose saying so long and Merry Christmas!  Make it a good one; think of us poor slobs who have to slave and toil while the rest of y'all are having fun!!  *grrr*

~Rat-Nose.  :)

With a whole country going out of work, it is kind of sobering to say to have a job...even if it takes a great chunk of holiday's fun.

At least Rat Nose has a job. Too many don't, or are losing theirs before the holidays. THAT would be the biggest Bah, HUMbugs of all. :( An excellent write, Karen, well done.

Hi Karen,

Well, I enjoyed reading this interesting letter. There are some lessons to be learned in it, too.

Wonderful message.
