Runnning like a bat out of hell I raced down the street. I had to think. I had to make my way back to where we came from. If I could just make it to the main street I was sure I could make my way back home. The problem was getting there. I turned left at the end of the block deciding that if I could get to the end of that one or find an alley it was sure to end up in the area I wanted. At the very least there would be someplace to hide.
I could hear soft footfalls running as I ran. I knew it was him it didn't take a rocket scientist to know that. No way in hell was I going to chance looking behind me to see where he was. I've seen enough horror movies in my day to know that girl always falls and subsequently dies as a result. I wasn't making that mistake.
I pushed myself harder. I had to get as much distance between us as possible but my once beautiful wedge sandals were making it nearly impossible. I cursed the makers of heals, they were so impractical.
The muscles in my legs were on fire and my heart was beating out of my chest. I was begining to wish I was one of those exercise gurus. At least then I might have had the stamina to make it and if I couldn't then I would beat him to death. Pure adrenalin was all I had to push me now.
Just as I has hoped there was an alley about halfway down the block. I turned into it with a quickness. Bad idea I thought to myself. The gravel and potholes were treacherous. My feet scrambled on the stones and avoiding the potholes was nearly impossible without the benefit of light.
Garage door after garage door after garage door passed me as I ran avoiding overturned garbage cans and old tires. I though this was a good neighborhood! Aparently they didn't realize that one day it could mean the death of a poor young girl like myself. Shame on them, I hoped they could live with themselves when the police were carting away my lifeless body from their piles of soiled McDonalds bags.
"Please stop running! you have no idea how much harder it makes this!" Max called.
Didn't she know if she wouldn't have run he might have been able to calm the beast within? But now...now she was his. He had to have her; there was no argument about that. If only she would stop running. Damn, her sweat was likea beacon. Even if he couldn't see her, he could smell her.
