Edith Maria Flores updates us on what is going on with her two grandchildren, whom she is raising by herself.

Hola!  Como esta usted?

I am well; so are my babies, Subriano and Morgana, my beautiful grandchildren, whom I am continuing to raise.  They are the lights of my life!  I would die for them; that's how much I love them!

Subriano and Morgana, they had a wonderful Christmas, probably one of the best Christmases in years.  Now that Subriano's shunt problems/replacement surgery is out of the way, he can concentrate on getting back to his normal way of life before his shunt malfunctioned.  It was a scary time for all of us.

The kids, they got much in the way of toys and games.  That ought to keep 'em busy for a while.  Some of the stuff they got included a Wii system (that was from their uncle Jose', my son), educational games for their computer, gift certificates to Chuck E. Cheese's, Great Adventure Games, the Nashville Zoo, and other venues, the Rock Star interactive game (that was their big gift besides the Wii system; that was also from their uncle Jose'), and new mp3 players/ear buds/batteries.

Nothing from their mama, Helena.  Nada.  Helen forgot them again this year.  They were so disappointed; I know they were counting on her to call them or send them a card; she did neither.  It is as if they don't even exist in her world, which breaks their (and my) heart(s).  Helena is so wrapped up in her little bi-polar world she doesn't even function normally half the time; she's in and out of the mental hospital, but I personally don't think it is doing her any good.

It is very heartbreaking to know that she is throwing her life away like this.  She could have been a good mama, but drugs and her bi-polar illness got the best of her.  We don't even know where she is:  in treatment, homeless, prostituting herself, or what.  We last heard from Helena just before Hallowe'en, when she called for some money so she could pay off a bill (she was working then).

Helena never acknowledged her kids.  It was only about asking for the money.  That was it.  End of conversation.

Other than Helena acting like an ass, Thanksgiving and Christmas was great because Morgana and Subriano got to see their cousins Margarita, Diego, Filip, Domingo, Estrella Graciela, Hortencio, Edith, Qu'irionka, Countessia, Virgilo, Romano, and Yolanda; they see them at least two/three times a year; when they do, it is always a great time.  (Their cousins all live in nearby Jackson, Tennessee.  We live in Nashville.)  The cousins are all my son Jose's kids.  Yes, twelve kids in that family.

I don't know what the new year will bring for our family, but I hope it is as good as the previous year was for us.  Other than some hospitalizations on Subriano's part, we've been doing great; I pray this continues.  I don't know what I would do if anything were to happen to my babies; the world has gotten so scary, especially with the man they have leading our country.  Something about President Obama terrifies me; I just don't trust that man!

Well, I hate to run, but it's time to help Subriano with his personal business, so I will go.  I will write in here again soon; until then, I hope your year is full of joy, love, peace, happiness, and above all, prosperity!  May 2010 be your best year EVER!

~Love, your friend in Tennessee, Edith Maria.  :)

I am so glad the children have such a great grandmother. It is to bad about her daughter. The good thing is many people who have bi-polar are very intellegent and creative and can have a very full and good life. Some of my co-workers at the job I was just laid off of had bi-polar and were some of the best workers.Hope her daughter gets the medication and help she needs. This is another great story.
With Love,

Sad, when a Mama abandons her kids, leaving them for a relative to raise. :( But then again, thank God they HAVE that loving grandmother who will raise them. Well done, Karen.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
