There are signs that Matthiah is coming out of his coma, much to the delight of his mother, Gillian, who has been keeping a bedside vigil.
Gillian Pendergrast here. I am sitting here, too stunned to believe what the doctor has just told us.
It appears that Matthiah is starting to come out of his coma! He is moving around more, and when the nurses/doctors suction him or do procedures on him, he gags or cries silently (he can't cry aloud due to the breathing tube down his throat). It is very encouraging to see; there might not be as much damage to his brain as first thought!
I long for the day when Matthiah will open his big, brown eyes and look at me. I know Kensie and Morgan, his sisters, will be thrilled to know that their brother is starting to come around! I know I am!! This is the best news I've had since he was hurt at the beginning of last month, when he ran his head into a tree. He was severely injured, but things are starting to look back up!
He will face a long, painful recovery, but the fact that he is coming out of his coma is a huge step forward! I am just glad that he didn't die in the accident; we could have very easily lost Matthiah!
Well, I am going to do some phone calls, let family and friends know of this huge step forward! God is so good; and I am glad that He is giving my baby boy a second chance at life!
