Gus was a mechanic who worked on one of the models for the upcoming Ford assembly line. He gave one of the cars a final tune up when he saw a vision. It was one of the cars he and others worked on, and it crashed with the driver killed on impact. He was so unnerved by it, he dropped the wrench and stopped working on the car that second. Gus did not know what to think at all, he never had been so scared in his life.
    He looked around and noticed another mechanic was next to him. Gus noticed was back in the hanger where they worked on the automobile. There was no clue in his mind whether or not Arthur, the other mechanic saw the vision or not. He almost did not want to talk about it and was sat down in a chair by Arthur. Gus just did not know what to make of what he saw. Or if he should even go through with it.
    'You want me to get a doctor?'
    Shaking his head, Gus shrugged it off once Arthur asked him this. He did not know if this Ford assembly line was a good idea or not. He was paid a great deal of money by Ford to work on these cars and help revolutionize the automotive industry. Yet he was fine with carriages, whether they were horse drawn or motorized. Why did these vehicles have to be developed? Gus always thought Ford was shoving everyone into one big hurry.
    'No, I’m fine.'
    While he sat there, he thought about the vision and hoped it was not true . Gus wanted to destroy the car, but if he did so, he and others would lose a lot of money. He could not handle such a thing. Gus knew there was going to be an accident, yet he could stand in the way of himself or other mechanics making a living or feeding their families. It was something he could not decide one way or the other. Yet something had to be done.
    Even though he could not do anything about the vision, he wished he could stop the vision from coming true . All of a sudden, he had an idea. He went over to the automobile he was working on and tinkered with it so it would not work. It would get him fired and may a good number of auto workers would also lose their jobs. Yet it would be worth it to save at least one life. Gus then started to tinker with other cars in the garage.
     Later that day, Gus stood there with the other mechanics behind Henry Ford. He hoped his plan paid off and kept the roads safe. There was no way for him to know for sure until someone cranked up one of the vehicles and let loose. He looked on while Henry Ford stepped up to the podium and was about to address the public. He noticed all the people who came out for this event and even the newspaper and magazine reporters.
    He smiled while Henry Ford made his speech to the crowd and stood thee when Ford pointed to him and the other mechanics. The crowd clapped and cheered and Gus thought it was nice to be recognized. Yet all he could think about was how if the automobiles worked there would be an accident. Even though this was his job and how he fed his family, he did not want to see anyone get hurt. It would be horrible to watch.
    Ford shook hand with, some of the test drivers, Gus himself looked on. He knew these drivers were getting paid good money to do this. Also, he knew the money came out of Ford’s pocket, he did not know how to feel. Whether he should feel good about sabotaging the cars to prevent injury. Or feel bad about wasting Ford’s money, much less depriving the test drivers of theirs. He just needed to see what was going to happen, like everyone else.
    One driver got into a car and gave the thumbs up, and Gus’ mind raced. He did not know if he should say anything about the cars being tampered. At the last minute, he figured he should not. If he did, embarrass Ford and everyone else here. Plus, if anyone knew it was him who tampered with the cars, he would get fired. Gus crossed his fingers in hopes the car would start. The driver cranked up the engine and he and the others would soon find out.
    Just when the automobile started and the driver made his onto the road. Gus watched his worst nightmare come true before his very eyes. The one thing he did not want to happen and tried to prevent came true . The accident happened after all, and he watched several mechanics check under the hood for what caused it. Gus knew he caused it with his tinkered. Tears streamed down his face when the driver’s pulse was checked and he was pronounced dead. Gus was now responsible for someone’s death and it was all because of the vision he had.
