An overweight teenager is the butt of jokes by her classmates.

I don't know why I even bother getting up in the morning.  I mean, it's bound to be the same thing every day:  people picking on me because of my weight.

My name is Dawn Maureen Bright.  I am sixteen years old and I live in Vidor, Texas, with my family.  I am in the eleventh grade at Vidor High School.

I'm also very obese.  At just five foot tall, I weigh well over 300 pounds.  Let's face it:  I'm a regular butterball.  I've struggled with my weight just about my entire life and lately it's only gotten worse.  A lot worse.

Case in point.  Every time I walk into homeroom (or even on the bus to go to school), I get the same reaction from kids:  looks of disgust or hatred, or having kids move away from me whenever I walk by, as though I'm infected with cooties or AIDS or something.  Don't think I don't hear their giggles or comments:  I happen to have very good hearing, better than most people; the comments I hear cut to the very core of my being.

If they don't call me names like "Lard-butt", "Fatso", "Fatty", or "Two-Ton Dawn", they moo at me as if I am a big, fat cow.  That is just as annoying as the teasing; in fact, my classmates find every opportunity in the world to fling digs at me or moo at me like I'm related to Elsie the Borden's Cow.

It's started to affect my schoolwork, not to mention, my very life.  It's getting to the point to where I don't even want to go to school any more, and it's getting to where I want to kill myself.  I've had it past up to here with their nonstop teasing!!

The teachers don't do a g.d. thing to stop it.  They just think it's hilarious ("Let's see how many students can make Miss Fatty Pie cry!") or gently admonish the kids ("Oh, please don't do that!").  Talk about sick!  I hate their condescending attitudes, and I hate the kids who torture me even more!!

Do you think I like being this way?  I mean, look at me.  I'm fat.  I'm ugly.  I look like a g.d. pig; I'd be good to live on a farm rather than in the city!  I've tried to lose weight; each time I do, I do fine for a time; then it comes back on, and then I end up being fatter than ever!  Diets do NOT work; believe me, I've tried them all!!

It's no wonder I don't like going anywhere, even to church.  The kids even pick on me there; there's no place that's safe from the teasing I must endure day in and day out!  I'd much rather stay in my room and play my little Farmville games at Facebook; that way, I can get lost in the games and not even worry about my life!

Well, I'm crying yet again, so I will go.  I don't know if I will write again, but if I do, it's hopefully to say that things have gotten better (but somehow I doubt they ever will!).

Til that time comes, goodbye.

~Dawn Bright.  :(  *tears!*

Probably it will be a good idea for schools to have in their curriculum a chapter dedicated solely to bullying and name callings, one hour, everyday, again and again and again and again, until the jerks become tired of hearing the same mantra and stop the bullying just to escape the reminders...

So, so sad ... I think kids learn from their parents and from society. So sad ... and very well penned. I felt this young girl's anguish and anger.

My, God, Karen, how sad! I don't even know what to say or what to suggest to make this poor girl's life even a bit brighter. All I can says is that this, as always, is one great story that flowed from your very talented -- by way of your brain -- fingertips.

It's sad to think that manny teen agers have to deal with teasing like this. I hope they have loving parents to help them through. As always your stories make us be more aware of the pain people live with each day. Thanks Karen.
With Love,
Cindy
