Dear Journal~
Louisiana here. Thought I would write in here while it's peaceful and quiet here at Casa Sandusky ...
Seems Olympic Fever has taken hold of the kids: ever since a few days ago, when we got buried by this latest snowstorm, the kids have wanted to go outside and hold a "mini Winter Olympics" of their own. They did this four years ago, when the Olympics were held in Turino, Italy, and I thought some of them were going to break their fool necks!
It's no wonder I've gone completely grey -- and I'm not even 45 yet!!
Speaking of the Olympics, we watched the Opening Ceremonies. The Olympics Committee didn't disappoint with the revelrie and pageantry that makes the Opening/Closing Ceremonies so unforgettable. I especially loved the part where they featured the Native Canadians: the Inuit, the Tlingit, other tribes just as important. They were really having a great time, dancing around, singing, and banging on their drums, throughout a good part of the entire ceremony!
Makes me appreciate my own Native-ness just a little bit more, as well as my husband's!
Alas, the Olympics are tinged with the color of sadness: just yesterday, a luger from the Republic of Georgia, in Russia, was tragically killed during a practice run when he ran into a pole. He was gravely injured; officials could not revive him. His name was Nodar Kumaritashvili, and he was only 21 years old. Such a tragedy; the entire Olympics is in mourning, as is the world. My prayers/thoughts are with this young man's family, coaches, and friends.
The entire Opening Ceremonies was dedicated to the young athlete; they even held a moment of silence, as a way to pay respect to his memory.
Olympic officials do not know at this time what triggered the horrible accident; however, their investigations will continue, until they get to the bottom of this.
No doubt today the kids will be partaking in their own version of the Winter Olympics here in our backyard in Nashville, Tennessee: skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, and sledding will be the main events of the afternoon. They also plan on having a "Torch Run" and "Lighting of the Olympic Flame", as only imaginative, ingenious kids can do. They will also have "medals" to hand out to the "winning athletes".
I know the yard will be crawling with kids as their version of the Winter Olympics takes place; it will probably last until nightfall. They do this every four years, when the Winter Olympics take place.
I am sure that there will be the world's largest snowball fight thrown in there somewhere. Then it's like, "Everyone, man their battle stations!" (Or, in my case, "HIT THE DECK!! And run for cover!!!!") LOL
I just pray they don't do anything foolhardy and end up killing themselves!
Or each other if arguments erupt! LOL
Whatever happened to "friendly competition" and "sportsmanlike conduct"?? LOLOLOLOL
Four years ago, Porter tried to brain Sergei over the head with his snowboard. Bill and I took it away from him and made him promise that he wouldn't hit his brother with the snowboard. Instant disqualifications! LOL
At least the Winter Olympics, a la Sandusky style, will take the kids' minds off of missing school on account of the recent bad weather we had. Poor Ronee' has been a bear because she absolutely hates to miss school. She's worried she won't get to graduate next year because she's already missed too many days this year due to bad weather! I told her not to worry; she'll graduate in plenty of time with her classmates!
Johnny has been unhappy too: he is bored to tears, and he misses seeing his girlfriend, Rebekkah Cohen. We've been snowed in up until several days ago; our side streets have finally been plowed to where they're slick, but driveable.
Speaking of, the other day, when Bill got home from work, he took out the mailbox with his truck. He slid on a slick spot and ran into the mailbox, knocking it off its post. I heard the crash; saw the result. He now has one working headlight, and the left front side of his truck is dented in but good! He will have to have the insurance guys come out to see how much damage was done to his truck as a result of the accident. He was NOT amused!!
You should have heard him yelling and cursing!! Glad none of our church friends were around at the time, but boy, I heard him! He now owes ME at least $100 for bad language; he even let the Big One fly. Oops!!!!
I could hear Bill hollering, even with the windows and doors being closed! LOL
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day; there's no telling what my family has planned for me. They always do the sweetest things just to make my life (and the life of their father) that much more special and unforgettable. Last year, the kids chipped in and got me a pair of diamond earrings. They also got me gift certificates to the local spa and to Border's Books and Music. Bill got me several new negligees and a diamond ring. It was a very nice Velentine's Day, even though it rained.
I am blessed to have such loving kids and one loving, sexy-cute husband! :)
Well, the kids are starting to rise; I can hear the faint rumblings of tummies and voices coming down from the hall. I had better get their breakfast ready so they can get ready for their Winter Games, which start promptly at nine sharp! Until then, this is Louie Sandusky saying so long! Take care and may God bless you! Pray the Sandusky Winter Games go without a hitch!
~Love, your friend in Tennessee, Louie May. :D
