Gillian Pendergrast here. Thought I would let you know that my baby boy, Matthiah Patrick, has finally come out of his two-month-long ordeal; he woke up two days ago, and surprisingly enough, he did not sustain any lasting brain damage as a result of his accident!
It has been a huge answer to prayer!!
Matthiah is now spending more time awake; he is undergoing therapy, as a way to retrain his body to gain what he lost. He is getting all sorts of therapy: physical, occupational, speech, hydrotherapy: anything to make his body come back to the way it was before he got hurt.
He still faces a long recovery, but every day, doctors are more hopeful; they think that in time he will be running, walking, talking, even eating again, just like a normal little boy! It is the best possible news we could have ever asked for!
When he gets out of the hospital (that probably won't be for at least another few months, according to his doctors), he will have the Christmas he nearly lost. So it will be April or May when we celebrate Chriatmas. Who cares?? We will have our son back; that is what is most important to us right now!
Of course, Mattie doesn't remember anything about getting hurt. We sure do, though; we probably won't forget it as long as we shall live. It was one of the most terrifying things that could have ever happened to two parents: to see their child struggling so hard to live!
We don't know what the future holds for Matthiah, but as long as he gets better, we are all for it; we will be with him every step of the way!
Well, the therapists are here again; they are going to put him on the tilt table and stretch his limbs. I will write in here again soon, with another update; hopefully the next time I write, he will be out of this hospital and be at the rehab facilities!
