Little storm-chaser-to-be, Spinner Regan Patterson, and his uncle Chris (aka "Twister") are in Texas, where they will be attending the annual TESSA (Texas Severe Storms Association) Conference, which will be held in Colleyville.
Karla and I will be there, as will some of our friends. :) Looking forward to it!!!!
Hello! It's me, Spinner! Guess where I am today!
I am in Fort Worth, Texas: we ("we" being my uncle Twister and myself) are going to be attending the annual TESSA (Texas Severe Storms Association) Conference,w hich will be held north of here, in Colleyville!
There are going to be some big-time chasers there, as well as the chief meteorologist of Channel 5, KXAS in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas; his name is David Finfrock, and he's one of the big weather forecasting names. There will be topics ranging from storm spotting and what would happen if a big-time tornado (think Greensburg, Kansas) hits the DFW Metroplex.
You don't have to be from Texas to attend this event, but it would help. LOL We're from Georgia, and my uncle heard about it a few months back; he wanted to go, so he made reservations for himself and me. So that is why I get to tag along with Uncle Twister. I think that is cool; I will actually get to meet some real life storm chasers and see what they're all about!
The weather is supposed to be beautiful: bright wall-to-wall sunshine and diminishing winds, with highs expected to be in the sixties. Absolutely perfect (unless you like storms, like Uncle Twister and I do! LOL)!
We got in yesterday afternoon (late); didn't do much except hang around the hotel and get the feel of our way around. I was hoping there'd be some storms for us to chase, but we missed some by two days: they had some storms on Thursday (in the morning), but they weren't too bad until they migrated eastward. Darn! We could have gone chasing!! :(
We did have some weather very early yesterday morning: lots of wind, hail, heavy rain, frequent lightning, even some tors south and north of us in Atlanta, but none in Atlanta, thank goodness. The sirens did sing their sirensong, and we headed to our bathroom to hide, but nothing really happened. I wanted to watch the storms; my parents said nothing doing: I was to hide with the rest of the family! LOL
Well, I have to go. We are going to go out to eat (at Denney's), then head on out to Colleyville for the Storm Conference. I can't wait; this is going to be soooo much fun!! Maybe I can get a book about stormchasing or get an autograph or two! That'd be too cool! TESSA was A W E S O M E. Informative, entertaining and yes, sobering: imagining the Greensburg event striking the DFW Metro on April 2, 2010, during rush hour traffic ... I pray to God we don't EVer see that scenario come to fruition. O.o Living in the Alley, we must be prepared ... but still hope we don't see it in our lifetimes. An excellent, excellent story. Well done. (And glad you were there with me!!)
