A mountain lion visits an unsuspecting family.

If I knew that this was going to happen, I would have never allowed it.

We have a new "friend", a friend of the feline variety.  No, he doesn't come into our house, but every evening, around dusk, you can be sure as certain to see him sitting by the back steps, waiting for a handout.  He's done this now for over a month, and it's like he's gotten to know us quite well.

The kids have taken to calling our new feline friend "Catzilla".  He isn't your everyday garden variety of cat:  he is a honest-to-goodness mountain lion.  Light tannish brown in color, very short fur, strong legs and long tail, big, golden eyes, really pretty.  Yet we don't dare get too close:  "Catzilla" is a wild animal; you never know what he might be capable of.  He could attack at will or scratch us to pieces; we aren't willing to take that chance.

You know he's gotta weigh well over 50 to 75 pounds easily.  Solid muscles that ripple when he walks, very regal looking.  Not exactly a kitten or a typical house cat by anyone's standards, yet even despite his wildness, he somehow seems gentle, especially when we leave him some meat or water to drink.  Then he flops onto his side and starts rolling around, purring to beat the band.  His purring is so loud you can hear it through the closed door or window!!

He must have the world's loudest purr!  I have never in all my born days heard a cat purr so noisily; it sounds just like my husband at night when he snores!  LOL

Catzilla doesn't just visit us:  he also visits the neighbors, in hopes of getting a treat.  I don't mind him coming, but I worry about small pets or kids getting outside when he's around.  So far, no animal or child has been attacked, but I'm just waiting for that to happen.  Catzilla just seems to be a rather friendly mountain lion with a voracious appetite.

I am sure Catzilla will be by our place anywhere between seven thirty or eight o'clock, just as the sun is sinking in the western horizon.  Better get his treats ready or I am sure he will meow hungrily (do mountain lions even meow??  Or do they growl??  I can't remember!  LOL) enough to the point of becoming a big-time pest.  LOL

I just hope he doesn't decide to have one of us (or our dog, "Frisky", our rat terrier) for dessert!  (Every time Catzilla appears, there goes our dog in a frenzy; yet Catzilla just looks at him with a stupid look on his face!  LOL  He wouldn't even be a snack!  LOL)

Around here we have had a couple of young foxes coming around for food, because pesticides have decimated the food chain so much...

I have to agree with Patrick. I'd rather come upon a wolf or a bear than a mountain lion, and they are sadly running out of food and safe havens, these days. I sure hope he doesn't decide he might like little Frisky.

It's sad that the wild animals are so desperate but it is now very common. Frisky might become Friskies if he's not careful. Patrick

I know this, Fee, but the family will learn that. Might continue this one to see where it goes. Thanks for the tip, friend! :)

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D

Great story, Karen.

Great story but should be noted mountain lions are not creatures to be tamed, they are wild animals and survive in the world by their ability to hunt and kill.
