A cat is the perfect tonic for a woman with health problems.

Everyone needs a green-eyed angel in their lives.  I have mine in the persona of a cat:  a green-eyed, bushy-tailed healer in feline clothing; she is the perfect medicine when I am feeling poorly or having a bad day.

My kitty's named is "Angel" (of course!); she is a two-year-old Norwegian Forest Cat.  My caretaker got her for me at the local human society; we've been best friends ever since.

"Angel" loves to sit on my lap or put her paws around my neck and/or purr in my ears.  I find that to be a great comfort to me.  I have fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, and other problems that have kept me homebound because I am no longer able to work or walk for long distances (if I do go anywhere, I take my scooter; it's easier).  I have been on SSDI for a year (after seven years of fighting and arguing with them; they kept telling me "I wasn't disabled enough", even when they could see that I was totally disabled)!  It was nothing but one frustration after another!

It got to be so bad I even contemplated suicide.  More than once, I begged my caretaker to just let me die or to let me overdose on my meds, so I wouldn't have to be such a burden on anyone any longer.  Then came "Angel", and my life's done a 360-degree turnaround;  I now find reason to smile or to keep on living.

Nobody will hire me because of my health problems, so I stay home (unless it's to argue with the stupid doctors or government).  My life is not pleasant, but "Angel" just makes it that much easier to bear.

"Angel" never fails to make me laugh with her entertaining quirks or her personality.  Even though she is a grown cat, she still has a lot of "kittenish" ways about her:  she loves to play or fetch things, and she loves to be a part of the action:  she hates to be by herself; she always has to know what is going on.

My caretaker and I take very good care of "Angel"; she's the best thing that's ever happened to me.  I just wish I had her sooner, when I was going through hard times; it would have made things a lot easier to deal with!

Well, I have to go:  another stupid doctor appointment.  Seems like my life is always spent going to one doctor or another or staying inside, glued to the phone!  I will write in here again soon; take care and keep me in your prayers; I could really use 'em!  Thanks in advance!

~Hilda.  :)

"The meek shall inherit the earth..." wish we could just have a piece of it before we die but I guess the closest thing we can have next is a loving family and pets. Well done.

We know your frustrations well, the good news is that there does come the time when you find a balance with all of this. I finally got my ssi ten years ago after being disabled long before then. The good news is that you got to work enough to get ssdi which give you twice as much right now and I'm just now going to meetings learning how I can make extra money and still keep the benefits we fought so hard to have. There are some really good facts to learn. After ten years in this healing process, I think a couple more surgeries and I'll be ready to do MY thing again. You hang in there.
