We live in a world where we are bombarded with ungodly images, and harsh language every day.
Sometimes it seems that we have become immune to the harshness and insensitivity to our fellow man.
It is time to slow down and listen to the voices of angels.
I was having a very bad time that day.
The car had a flat, it had started to rain, and the my little girl Sara had decided this was the time to start whining!
I was NOT in the mood.
As soon as the rain started pouring so hard I could hardly see to drive, Sara announced that she needed to go to the restroom.
“Of course you do” , I said in a very annoyed voice.
I looked for a place to take her.
As I spotted the shopping center ahead, I pulled over to the right lane to turn into the parking lot.
Horns blared as I did so.
That truck was a good ten car links away and moving so slowly, that there was NO way I had endangered him.
Now I was REALLY annoyed.
As I found the nearest parking spot to the store, I reached down for my umbrella.
It was not there, of course.
My heart sank.
“What else?” I asked as I looked up, as though God was going to answer this very irate woman.
“Sara”, I said as I unlocked the doors, “I am going to open your door and we are going to run up to the store, DO NOT run ahead of me, and hold my hand! DO YOU understand?” I knew that I was shouting, but I wanted her to be clear that she had to stay with me.
“I will mommy!” she said.
After placing a sweater over my head, I stepped out in to the rain, (that was now pouring even harder), and opened Sara’s door.
She jumped out and grabbed my hand, causing me to drop my purse into the two inch puddle I in which I was standing.
My purse came open, and everything fell into the water, my cell phone included.
I held my tongue, only because the words that came to mind were better left unspoken!
As quickly as possible, I gathered up the contents of my purse, and shoved them back inside.
Sara, now drenched, was crying, and thought I was going to blame her for making my purse fall.
I grabbed her hand, and we ran in to the store.
The amused clerk had been watching us from the front of the store and was giggling as we made our way inside, leaving puddles as we walked.
I fought the urge to tell her how happy I was that she found our discomfort so amusing.
I asked where the lady’s room was only to be told that it was out of order.
By this time, I was fuming.
“Do you have a men’s room she can use?” I asked
“Well,” she said slowly, “I don’t know if it would be right for her to go in the men’s room.”
“Okay”, I responded, “I will stand outside the door and not let anyone in, but she WILL use the men’s room!”
By this time, the grin was gone from her face, and she knew I was a mother on the edge!
She directed us to the men’s room.
I took Sara back, and she just stood there.
“Well,” I said, “go to the bathroom!”
“Mommy, don’t get mad, but I don’t have to go now.”
I thought my head was going to explode!
When I looked down at her little face, I couldn’t help but to laugh.
She looked so pitiful with her hair soaking wet, and standing in a puddle!
I looked at the puddle I was standing in and told her that it didn’t matter.
We went to the front of the store, and I thanked the clerk, after telling her how sorry I was for being so short with her.
She told me that she had three kids, and she understood.
I took Sara’s hand and we walked toward the door.
“Look Mommy!” she said, “The rain has stopped!”
“Of course it has Sweetie.” It wouldn’t have been my life if it was still raining!
As we entered the parking lot and headed toward the car, I saw the truck that earlier, I had pulled in front of, parked next to my car.
“Oh boy, this can’t be good.” I said to myself.
I walked to the other side of the car, and put Sara inside, then locked the doors.
As I cautiously approached the driver’s side, the driver of the truck stepped out.
This man was huge, and he started toward me.
I had my keys placed in my fist, with the points sticking out between my fingers, just as I had learned in self defense classes.
“Miss,” he said in a soft voice, “I hope I didn’t startle you when I blew the horn at you earlier, but your trunk was not closed all the way. I didn’t want it to fly open and cause you to wreck your car.”
I was taken aback, that this man had been sitting out here for a long time because he was concerned for me and my daughter. I felt so ashamed for pre-judging him.
Before I could respond to his kind concern, he began to speak again.
“When I saw you pull in here, I thought I could catch up and tell you, but when you stepped out into the rain, I guess you didn’t see me.” He smiled and reached out with my wallet in his hand.
“When you dropped your purse in the puddle, you missed this.”
I was amazed. There had been four hundred dollars in my wallet, and it was still there!
“I don’t know what to say” was all that came out when I could finally speak, “How can I repay you?”
I was reaching in my wallet to give him something for a reward.
He shook his head “no”, and said, “You don’t need to give me a thing, just pass the kindness on to the next person you see.”
With that, he turned and got back into his truck, and drove off.
I opened door and got in the car.
As I started the engine, Sara said, “Mommy, who was that?”
“Sara,” I replied with a smile on my face, “THAT was an ANGEL!”
I AM SO GLAD HE WAS PERSISTENT...YOU WOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN THIS GREAT MESSAGE ABOUT THE NEED OF 'SLOWING DOWN' TO PASS ON TO US...NOR... WOULD YOU HAVE GOTTEN YOUR WALLET BACK. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS & FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
I really enjoyed reading this story, but I must confess I can't imagine the connection between the story and the photo.
The story is entertaining and encouraging.
