My name is Omega Danesha Wilson. I am 11 years old. I live in Modesto, California, with my mama and daddy, and my three little sisters: Yolande Verelle (10), Richelle Egan (8), and Paisley Grace (5). My mama is a nurse and my daddy works for the Modesto schools; he is a janitor and a "jack-of-all-trades": he does a lot of different jobs.
I am in the sixth grade at Modesto Christian Academy. I do very well in all of my classes. It's lunch I have to worry about: you see, I am allergic to all nuts. My allergy to nuts is so bad if I even smell them in the air, I can have trouble with my breathing and swell up like a balloon. I have had this allergy since I can remember; I can't tell you how many times I have ended up in the hospital fighting to breathe. Sometimes it was so bad I would actually pass out, and the doctors (or paramedics) would have to work hard to revive me. I nearly died.
Now when I go anywhere, I have to have my special inhalers or wear my allergy pendant, which tells other people of my special problem. I also have to avoid being around nuts at all costs. Any nuts will do this, but peanuts are the worst offenders. If I want to live (and I do, believe me!), then I have to stay away from peanuts at all times, or else it's goodbye!
The worst thing that could happen to me (besides my dying, of course) is waking up in Heaven and looking up at the face of Jesus Christ. Not that I would mind it, but I would like to live a little longer, and I'm not ready to go just yet; I'm just a kid with a whole lot of living to do!
I am sure there are other people who live with this type of allergy, but it's still a pain in the butt. There's so many good things I can't have: pumpkin pie, banana nut bread, pineapple upside down cake, etc. I also can't be around people roasting or cooking nuts, or *boom* there goes my eyes and my throat! I then have to fight for air, and I have to get out of there or else it's yet another (free) trip to the Emergency Room. (I now know that riding in an ambulance isn't free. You can't believe the expenses I have caused; I have seen the bills, and I feel bad for causing my parents all this trouble.)
When I am not worrying about my health/breathing/allergies, I am like any other 11-year-old girl. That is, I love Hannah Montana, the Jonas Brotehrs, and "High School Musical", I love gabbing on the phone with my friends, hanging out with my friends after school or on the weekends, going shopping at the mall, and collecting anything purple, pink, or teal; those are my three favorite colors. I also love to draw or read books about horses or the "Goosebumps" series by R.L. Stine.
So that's my story. I will write in here again aonther time; I feel there is more of my story to share. Until later, this is Omega Wilson saying so long! God bless and pray I don't have any more problems with my stupid peanut allergy! Being in the Emergency Room or having to spend time in the hospital is not my idea of fun! I'd greatly appreciate it!
~Love, your new friend in California, Omega. :)
