Bones (aka Jeremiah Hernandez) shares his story.

Image of evening sky (C) 2010, by Karla Dorman.

Hola, compadres!  What's shakin'?

Call me "Bones".  Real name is Jeremiah Oscar Hernandez, but most people (friends mostly) call me bones, on 'count I am so skinny.  Never could get any meat on my bones, and I eat like a horse!  LOL

I am fourteen years old and live in Tacoma, Washington, with mi familia.  My family includes my mami and papi, my abuela (mi abuelo died two years ago of a stroke; how I miss him!), and my four younger brothers:  Chachi (10), Omar (8), Pedro (6), and Javiar (4).  We also have a dog named Taco (he's a chihuahua, 'bout the color of a taco shell).  LOL

I have many friends at school, but my main homeboyz are the kids I hang out with afterwards.  My best friend is Dragon (real name's Brandon H. Lee; he's fifteen).  Other friends of mine in this group include Mixer (Mitchell Jones), Zebediah Hawkins-Brown (Venom), Daniel Richmond (Digger), Viviana Diaz (Goth-Girl), Desmond Wilson (Snake), Omar Okefewe (Railroad), Eden Woodson (Tiny), Scott Quillen (Beans), and Micheal Ipswitch (Narc).  We range in age from twelve (Tiny) to eighteen (Zebediah and Desmond, aka Venom and Snake).

Some of the kids are bad news (Desmond, Zebediah, Brandon, and Mitchell), but most are not.  They are just bored, so they hang out with us for something to do on non-school nights or during summer vacation.

Like last Saturday:  we went cruisin'.  Chaco (Viviana's older brother) has a tuff lookin' car, so we went ridin' for a few hours.  We didn't get back  until nearly midnight, twelve thirty.  It was cool; we had a blast!  And tonight we're going to the movies:  we're seeing the latest action flick at the dollar theatre. Tomorrow night we are going malling; we are going to hang out at the mall and look at all the hot babes.

I just hope that Snake, Venom, Mixer, or Dragon don't try to rob old ladies' purses or scare unsuspecting middle agers; they seem to get a thrill out of their reactions.  I don't like it because they could very well give them a heart attack or cause them to have a stroke.  They also could get beaned by a cane or two.

Snake, Venom, Mixer, and Dragon also drink and (I suspect) use drugs.  Sometimes they smell like a brewery; it makes me very uncomfortable.

I grew up in a Christian home, so people like Mixer, Venom, Snake, or Dragon give me the willies.  I don't know why I hang out with them, but I do, especially since Dragon IS my best friend.  I'm caught in a bad situation.  I'd like to leave him, but I'm afraid if I do, he or some of his gang friends will try to beat me up or hurt me somehow.  So I'm stuck like chuck.

When I'm not with my friends, I like to read or write poetry.  I know the guys would laugh if they knew of my love for words:  they'd probably laugh or call me gay.  I also like to watch tv ("America's Got Talent" and "Cops")  and play with my brothers and my dog.  I don't have a very exciting life unless I'm with my homeboys; this is why I hang out with them, as I said earlier.

Well, I gotta eat some grub, then meet my friends at six thirty; that's only forty five minutes from now.  We're then going to go to the movies.  I hope we have a good time without too much trouble from Dragon, Snake, Venom, or Mixer.  I can live without that kind of excitement!  Take care and God bless!

~Bones (aka Jeremiah Hernandez).  :)

I know I've said it before, Karen, but it never ceases to amaze me how you continue to come up with new and interesting characters!

'I'm caught in a bad situation' - truly sounds like you are - and I hope you find your way out - before it's too late.

Do not know how you keep inventing people, their friends, family and their worlds in such a realistic way. Fantastic writing here, Ms Vidra

Sounds like Bones has a conscious ... hope he makes wise decisions and reevaluates who his friends really are. Well done, Karen.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
