Love at War

This is a story of being defeated by Love yet learning how to conquer it.

Love is headed to war. I can see it coming from the top of the hill from whence I am standing. My first instinct is to run, but I refuse. I’m not going to be intimidated. You see I’ve been on this battle field. If Love wants to battle, then battle we will.
Yeah I know Love is a great commander. It conquers all. It’s had many battles and won them all. I lost the first battle because I didn’t see it coming. I was young and naïve and had no guards. But this time it’s different. My guards are up and ready. I have confident in them. They will protect my Queen, my Heart.
So as I stand here I see Love’s soldiers are vast in number.  I run to warn the others, the Body and Mind, “Love is coming!” They too feel intimidated. They know that Love seeks out its territory and without warning, takes it over. I coach them and let them know “We can do this. A lot’s at stake. The heart is fragile and we don’t want it to break. So heads up! Guards high! It is battle time!”
All is fair in Love and War. But Love…Boy, it’s a bad mother **** SHUT YO MOUTH! It sends in its front line, Flattery. Psssh! Is that all you got? Is that your best shot, your sweet words of nothingness? I am not flattered. You have to come harder, for none of that gibberish really matters. Oh yeah, I recall this, the late nights and long conversations. Love can catch you in the wee hours when you are weak and vulnerable. Sending in its soldier Quality Time, trying to get you to take your guard down, and trying to play with your mind. Don’t be a fool. It’s a trap. You block it then you’re safe. “Oh Snap! Who’s that coming?” says the Body. Oh My! That’s the Physical Attraction. I’ve seen him before.   “Runnnnnnnnnnnnn!” I scream. And both the Mind and the Body sprint for the door. Oh shhhh! Man down! The body slips and fall. “Get up I say.” It’s too late for the jewels are already lost.
Awe! That wasn’t fair, Love, to send such an impostor. With its attractiveness, it seduces the Body and makes it a slave. The Body is in a trans. Love uses the Body to infiltrate the Mind. However the Mind is strong and not as weak as the Body.   The mind has stored up bulks of memories of past hurt. It knows the type of damage Love can do. For it was there by its Queen, the Heart, when it was broken before. Countless days of pain and agony it took to restore.
“Boom! Boom! Boom!” There’s a knock at the door. Who’s there? None other than Love at War. Truth be told, Love needs no help. It is very competent and can speak for itself. “I am not the enemy,” Love proclaims. And before I knew it my Queen, my Heart, surrenders and gives herself away. I fall back with the look of defeat in my eyes knowing that I gave my all, knowing that I tried.
You see I know how this thing called Love goes. Just as quick as it comes, it’s just as slow to go go go. Like a thief in the night, it fades away. It most of the time leaves and it rarely ever sticks around to stay. Maybe it’s not meant to be understood. Victims of Love fall in and out, in and out. Champions of Love let it in and keep it there. Uhhhm? That’s the secret. That’s how you win the battle. Letting Love in, not being afraid;  holding it hostage and not letting the battle go in vain.

Take some time to walk outside of your own mind and into another, walk slowly and carefully; the mind that you step on might be your own.
