Work, work, work, work, work! That's all we ever do anymore.
Even though it is summer vacation, I feel like I'm in prison. I don't know why our coach left and got this ... gorilla ... in her place! Our new coach is awful with a capital A!!
We girls still have to report at the school gymnasium at six thirty sharp. No exceptions. If anyone is late, it's subject to severe punishment (try being kicked off the gymnastics team). The same rule applies to if you are sick. I tell ya, life sure isn't fair with Coach Bear around!!
Bear's real name is Madame Ivinka Barishnikova. Bear is a better name for her: she looks like one (big, hulking, with intense, cold ice-blue eyes that could cut steel if she lays 'em on you!), and even has the personality to match! She's mean!!!!
I am starting to have serious thoughts about signing up with gymnastics. When our previous coach was with us (she left because her MS got worse; this is why we got a new coach), she made gymnastics fun! With Coach Bear around, gymnastics is anything but. I want to quit gymnastics so bad it isn't even funny, but mom and dad both say to stick it out.
I guess they want me to be the next Olga Korbut or Nadia Comenichi (name mispelled! LOL), or perhaps the next Mary Lou Retton or Kerri Strug or something. Both took gymanstics while in college, and so they decided to pass their love for the sport on to me. Wrong!! As long as Coach Bear is running the show, I will be looking for any and all excuses to escape! I'm trapped in her den, and I'm desperate for a way out without hurting mom and dad's feelings!
I agree with Rose, Karen: if a child wants to participate in sports or singing or whatever, they should do it because they want to, not because they are forced into it. However, that being said, if they want to be the best, they have to work at it, and work hard. An excellent write, well done.
I like this and there is a lesson for parents here. No child should be forced to take any sport against their wishes. Although it may be heart warming and fill is with pride to see our children follow in our footsteps willingly, to be forced is another thing...
