Annechka and her younger brothers, who are Jewish, remain in hiding, scared about what is going on around them. She is worried about the fate of her parents, who have been captured by the Nazis.
Poland, 1939 (Summer)~
Annechka here. I cannot reveal my last name to you; I hope you do find it in your heart to forgive me for this. If I do, I may risk getting caught by the Nazis, so I do this to remain as safe as possible.
My younger brothers, Isaak and Joachim, and myself remain in hiding. Again, I cannot reveal to you where we are. Our lives are in danger enough without adding to it. I hope you understand why I must do this.
We still have no clue as to where Mama or Papa are, except to say that they aer probably prisoners of the Nazi regime. They are probably in some death camp somewhere, being forced to work themselves to death.
I wonder if they are even alive ...
Meanwhile, all I can do is pray to Yeshua and hope that Mama and Papa are safe ... or at least, still living. It is a terrible thing for children to go through.
We are being punished because we are Jews. The Nazis hate the Jews; they want nothing more than to get rid of us in any way possible, even if it means exterminating as many as possible as though we were worthless bugs. All my life I have prided myself on being Jewish; now all of a sudden I am ashamed for not only myself, but for my entire family.
I have had horrible nightmares where the Nazis find us and take us to the death camps. There, we are beaten and given very little in the way of food. We are then forced to pay homage to Hitler (fah! I HATE him so much!!) and work from well before sunrise to well past sunset, into the night. When we go to bed, we are exhausted -- only to be aroused a few hours later, to do this all over again.
I wake up from these dreams screaming and pouring sweat.
I don't know what we have done to anger the Nazis. I see nothing wrong with being Jewish! Are we not as good as anybody else? Why can other people live their lives while we Jews hide in fear?? It is not fair!!
Well, I hear footsteps outside; I pray it isn't another Nazi!! I must put this in my secret hiding place and find somewhere to make myself and my brothers scarce so they don't find us! Please pray for us!!
Karen as always you draw us into your stories with your amazing way of weaving a story and this one is a subject I am passionate about!!!
In Christs Love

I don't know how I missed this when you presented it on the twenty-seventh, but must say that you most certainly have a talent for bringing us into one situation after another and causing us to believe that the people of which you write are real, and often I do feel as though they are real and that you personally are involved in their lives, which, in a way, real or not, you are involved in their lives and so then involve us in their lives.
Your friend in Southern California, Mark
As I have stated a number of times, you have the ability to bring to life so many different characters in so many different situations from so many different times; very nicely done, Karen. Love and best wishes, ton ami de la C-B, Canada,
