A woman living in Texas looks forward to the fall season and the start of school for her kids.

I can't say it enough: I am looking forward to the start of fall. Fall to me signals cooling down of the temperatures (right now here in Fort Worth, it's in the low one hundreds) and especially the start of school for my kids. They start back to school next week.
I can't wait! My kids have been driving me bananas with their constant bickering, not to mention, my husband or I shuttling them back and forth from their various lessons or sports activities. Mike and I are both ready for a break from the kids!!
We have already gotten the kids' school supplies in order, and are waiting for their school uniforms to come in. They don't like the idea of wearing uniforms, but too bad. I think wearing uniforms would cut down on the bullying and the competition between the poor kids verses those who have money!
In addition to that, Mike and I are looking forward to the start of the colors appearing in the leaves. Mike and I have always loved fall. We grew up in Vermont, where the fall foilage is legendary; we moved to Texas fifteen years ago, before our oldest daughter was born, because of his job. Mike works at Lockheed, where he is an aircraft maintenance man. He's been there almost fourteen and a half years now.
Texas, to me, is too danged hot. The first year we came down here, I thought we were going to die! It was akin to walking into an open oven door; the sun was brutal, and when we stepped outside, we immediately broke out into a heavy sweat. I don't know what people down here did before they had air conditioning!!
I think after this year, Mike and I are going to move back north to Vermont. We can't take the summers here. People dwon here keep saying that it was worse twenty years ago, when Texas had a string of 100+ degree days (69 total); it was probably the worst summer heat wave on record. Several people perished on account of the heat and people were told to stay indoors during the hottest part of the day and drink plenty of liquids to stay hydrated.
I can't imagine what that heat wave must have been like. This year's is bad enough! I hate having to stay indoors a good part of the day! At least we have our pool, but we can't really do much anything until well after the sun sets or earlier in the morning before the sun comes up. It seems once the sun comes up, the heat isn't far behind.
And it really doesn't cool down at night. This morning, at three, when I checked the Weatherbug temperature on our computer, it was 85 degrees. At three in the morning!! That isn't that cool, if you ask me!! I'm more than ready for temperatures in the sixties or below!! This hot weather pattern is getting nothing short of ridiculous!!
As the father of four, now adult chilcren that were raised in the heat and humidity of Chicago summers, I can tell you that my wife and myself could not wait until fall and the start of school. Your story brings back many memories. Thank you, Karen.
