A boy is suspended from school from getting into a fight on the first day of school.

Not even the first day of school that goes by, and already I am in deep shit.  Got suspended; a boy called me a faggot, and I punched him right in the nose.  Bloodied it, too.  Did it right as Principal Fairchild was walking by.  Stone.  Cold.  Busted!

Just because I like to dance (ballet or modern jazz and hip-hop) and don't care for sports, people have to make stupid-assed assumptions and pin the "gay" label on me.  I am everything but gay:  I'm as straight as an arrow!

I have been dancing ever since I can remember.  I have always loved dance:  appreciate the artistry and the beauty that comes forth after many years of hard practice and effort.  I have been dancing ever since I was like three years old; started with tap, but then, by the time I was in fifth grade, I wanted to try ballet, so I did. It was hard, but now, it's gotten a lot easier, now that I can do some of the poses!  I also heard that taking dance improves one's co-ordination, so this was another reason I signed up.

Anyway, this particular kid had been razzing my ass since grade school.  I decided I had finally had enough, so after he called me a "faggot" once too many times, I played a drum solo on his nose.  Tried to put it in the opposite direction.  Hell, I didn't care.  As long as he got what he asked for, that was all that I was concerned about!

Principal Fairchild bellowed like a stuck cow when he saw the blood streaming from Parker Kelleghen's nose.  He then grabbed me by the neck, screaming at me as he led me to his office, where he then proceeded to chew my ass out and call my parents after he handed the suspension punishment to me.

Now because of this, the fight I had with Kelleghen is now on my "permanent record", and I am to stay out of school for an entire two-week period.  I'm also grounded by my parents; can't go anywhere unless it's with them.  It's like I'm almost on total house arrest!!

I feel like a criminal! It's insane!  I wish mom and dad could have been there all those times where Kelleghen and his cronies picked on me; he had it coming to him, and by God, I gave it to him!!  No, they had to side with Kelleghen, and say things like "violence will only make things worse" or "use words, not your fists".  I just wish they knew how badly he treated me ever since he found out I took dance lessons after school twice a week!!

I am sure Kelleghen is trying to figure out a way to see if his nose can be turned the other way; no doubt he is probably at the emergency room of the local hospital.  When he gets back, I am sure I will get a call from his parents, and they won't be calling just to say hi to me.  More'n likely, they'll probably bless my ears off pretty good!  Don't blame them, but why is it my fault! Kellegher is the one who should be at fault, NOT me!!

Well, I've managed to bum myself out yet again, so I am going.  I still say I should be in the right because it was only out of self defense; I had to put an end to his teasing once and for all!!  Damn Kelleghen; how I HATE his fucking guts!!

Well written, it is something that goes on everyday in school. I know for a fact it does. This was interesting and it is getting a point across..Bravo. I can side with you about the dancing as my son loves to dance and he is called GAY. He has always loved to dance since he was about three years old. I would think you were writing about my son, Will. He has not yet been in a fight but we see it coming. I like what I read.

Well told story, Karen.

Very well written, as usual, Karen. The only "reality show" I watch is "So You Think You Can Dance". I really like seeing the kids turn into class A dancers and, some of the boys, I so often think, had to have the same problems as the young guy in your story.

While I don't advocate resorting to violence, sometimes one is pushed and pushed and pushed and PUSHED until they can't take it any more. Wondering how this will turn out -- hope there's a continuation to this excellent story. Well done, Karen.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
