Have we even learned anything since That Day, nearly nine years ago, when terrorists used planes as bombs and took down twin towers in New York City and tried to take the Pentagon in Washington DC??  The day where over 3,000 of our innocent citizens died in a fiery inferno?

Somehow I doubt it.  We were all gung-ho patriotic for a long time after the attacks; however, we have seemed to return to the pre-9/11 complacency.  People no longer care or have semmed to forgotten what happened.  We have become a nation of divided people (Christian against Musllim, Republican against Democrat, etc.); nobody wants to even bother to try to get along with one another.  Everyone is ready to point an accusing finger and blame everybody else.

Well, I, for one, refuse to stoop to that level.  I refuse to forget.  I have friends who lost loved ones or friends in the attacks, so in a way, I was attacked too.  I was affected (we all were, I think).  I plan on spending that day in prayer and also singing some patriotic songs, as a way of trying to minister to a nation who must again be forced to remember, try to bring them a sense of hope or comfort.

I still have nightmares even today.  I can't sleep well during this time of year.  I still see the images burned in my memories or in my retinas whenever I try to sleep at night.  I end up getting up after only an hour or two of sleep, and I go to my laptop, where I do some writing.  I have written so much since then it's a wonder I still have any hands left; it's a wonder they haven't fallen off.

I can't watch the news because of September 11, 2001.  I was only a little girl of eight when it happened, but I have since seen the horrifying images on television or on video.  What I saw truly disturbed me, especially since it happened right here in the United States of America!  What was behind the attacks besides hatred, and why wasn't anything done to try to protect our citizens or prevent this from happening in the first place??

I am angry that this happened.  I'm even more disappointed that nothing has been done to prevent something like this from happening.  It already happened once: what's to say that it won't happen again? Well, it could happen again, and the next time, it might be even worse, if that is even possible.  Al Quaeda still remains a constant threat; we still have people who hate us and would do anything possible to bring us to our knees. 

The borders still remain open, and nothing is being done to close them or ensure safe entry/reentry into our nation.  People might be getting checked more carefully when they enter the country, but what's to say that a potential terrorist could be lurking out there, somewhere, ready to strike??

I'm wondering how the current president will mark the ninth anniversary.  Hopefully he does right and honors those who perished.  Somehow, he makes me nervous; I just don't trust him.

May we never forget.  I certainly won't.  I can't.
