I don't think I have ever seen a more pathetic case than the one I saw today at work.
Today, a little cream-colored Pomeranian puppy was brought in by animal ambulance to our facility. What we saw will probably stay with us for a very long time to come.
The puppy couldn't have been more than two months old at the most: he was just a little feller. He was almost unconscious; it was clear that he needed life-saving medical treatment as quickly as possible, or else the little guy could die.
The dog had been found by animal rescue authorities. It was living in a small, cramped space, with little in the way of food and water. His fur was matted and caked with dirt, feces, urine, and other means of filth; he stunk to high heaven. His eyes were nearly crusted shut, and he had been burned about the facial area.
One shudders to think of what the little guy must have endured at the hands of his abuser(s). All we could do was start IV's and start pumping life-saving medications and fluids into his small, overwhelmed body. We also gave him oxygen so he could breathe easier: his breathing was very labored, to the point of gasping.
To see the great amount of suffering/pain this puppy was enduring tore at my heart. I had to leave work early because what I saw/witnessed absolutely devastated me. I only hope that my fellow co-workers could do something to help the puppy.
If he even lived, it would be nothing short of miraculous; right now, though, things looked very bleak.
The more I thought about this, the angrier I became. I wanted nothing more than to physically go over to whoever did this to this puppy and do the same thing to him (or was it a her??). Nobody, not even a poor, helpless little animal, deserved such barbaric treatment!
All I could do was pray for the puppy, whose name was "Boomer", and hope that he survived the night, let alone, the days to come. He had a very long road of recovery ahead of him.
*To be continued.*
