A teenaged boy deals with an absentee father who only shows up some of the time instead of being there for him and his family.

My dad is a punk in the worst way.

He walked out on us when we seemed to need him the most.  Our mom had just had my youngest brother at the time, and after finding out that he was born handicapped, dad up and left us, just like that.

He left mom alone to raise me, my brother, and my sister.  It hasn't been easy.

What makes the situation even worse is that he calls only on certain holidays (Christmas and Easter come to mind), and he comes to our place maybe about twice a year, if that many.  He still gets uncomfortable with Jeremy.  I don't blame him, but Jeremy is his child, too, and he needs to be there for him!  Jeremy didn't ask to be born with cerebral palsy and other problems; it just happned!

Whenever I see my dad, I get physically ill.  I don't want to have anything to do with him.  He's a total jerkoff!  He is more into his NASCAR or sports than his own family, or hanging out with his biker/drinkin' buddies!  He also curses like two sailors (every other word from his mouth is a swear word), and seeing that mom is raising us in a godly fashion, well, that just doesn't fly around here!

My sister asks about dad all the time, like when he is going to come home.  Personally, I don't give a flyin' fig.  He can rot in hell for all I care, for the way he walked out on us, and especially on Jeremy!  We are having to help care for him, so we can take some of the strain off of mom; mom is about to collapse with worry and exhaustion!

Grandma comes to help out, as does grampa, but they're old; they need to be enjoying their golden years, not taking care of a severely handicapped kid!

Angry? You bet!  I have been angry ever since this happened five years ago, and the rage continues to try to consume me.  I have tried to give it to the Lord, but then I think of dad, and I want nothing more than to bash his face in and beat the shit outta him for what he has done to us!  It's not fair!!

HEARTBREAKING. Too many punk Dads (and Moms) out there ... and it's the innocents who suffer. :( Well done, Karen.
