I will say this much:  they sure don't have anything like this where I come from, in Alaska!

I am currently visiting my friends who live in Lafayette, Louisiana.  They invited me to go with them to a Cajun dance. 

Well, I went last night with them, and let's just say this:  I had the time of my life!

I have never really heard of Cajun music until I became friends with Colton and Kimberly Ladeau, and I fell head over heels in love with it!  They sent me some CD's by "BeauSoleil", Belton Richard, and Sheryl Cormier, and I enjoyed the music very much.  I soon became a fan of Cajun music and found myself wanting to go to Lousiana, so I could experience this music live.

So when I got my vacation from work, I decided to go to Louisiana.  I have been here since Wednesday, and I plan on staying until Monday of next week.  Having too much fun! 

So far while here, I have gone to Acadian Village (that was interesting!), gone to eat out at several of Lafayette's finer eating establishments (fell in love with the frog legs and the crawfish etoufee'!), and gone shopping, where I loaded up on several Cajun CD's and shirts and stuff.

Then last night we went to LaPoussiere' in Breaux Bridge, where they had Walter Mouton and his band, "The Scott Playboys", playing, and I had fun learning how to dance the Cajun two-step to the fast songs, and the Cajun-style waltz to the slower ones.  I didn't have too much trouble learning the steps; I found learning how to Cajun dance incredibly easy!

There were people of all ages present at the dance (the Cajun locals called it a "fais do-do"): tiny babies and little kids, teenagers, young couples, middle-agers, even senior citizens.  Everyone was smiling and having fun bouncing to the music.  I was probably having the most fun of all because I am not from Louisiana, so this was all rather new to me.  I enjoyed the heck out of myself!

Now I am staying with my friends and relaxing as we watch the Saints football game (they're playing the Atlanta Falcons).  Don't know what we'll do for my remaining days here, but I do think that more dancin' and fais do-doin' are in order.  I gotta do this again; one time is not enough!  LOL
