A formerly homeless man finds a job and a place to call home.

I never thought it would ever happen to me in a million years.

First of all, I am living in my own place after being homeless for over ten years.  Secondly of all, I am now working: just got my job last week.

I am working at McDonald's, where I take care of the customers and take care of their money and their orders.  It can be hectic at times, but compared to where I'd been, I'd say I'm livin' large.

I will be getting my first paycheck next week.

It seems like God's never given up on me, even when I thought otherwise.  I had people praying for me, and I felt their love and their prayers.  Well, a breakthrough came about a month ago, when my caseworker told me of an apartment complex that was looking for tenants.  Being homeless, I took a jump at it and was immediately accepted.  I was so happy I cried tears of joy!

I love my new place.  It has a bed, a table, a small livingroom, a small bathroom, and a small kitchenette.  It's not big, but it's home.  To me that is most important because up until a month ago, I was living on the streets, with no place to sleep or having no food to eat unless someone gave me some money or some eats.  Otherwise, i'd be rootin' around in the trash bins, hoping for something edible to quell my ever-growlin' stomach.  It was really bad.

I'd lost my home because I drank like a fish. Gambled too.  Figured that since I was a homeless Veteran, nobody gave a flyin' rip about me or my welfare.  I was also extremely depressed and tried to kill myself more than once; figured that life was not worth living.  Then I saw the light when a lady at the church shelter I'd stayed at told me about Christ, and then my life changed.

Things ahve been on an upward swing ever since.  Now I'm a working man, and I will soon have money in my pocket.  I also have a home and food in my belly.  Who would have ever thought this would happen to me, of all people??

I still say I am dreaming.  Please, somebody, quick: someobody pinch me!!  I can't believe that all of these good blessings from God are raining down on me!!

It's not big, but it's home ... home. A roof, overhead. Food in the stomach. No more worries about where you'll be sleeping and if you'll be safe and get some sleep. And a job, too: counted blessings in these beautiful, heartwarming lines of hope. Well done, Karen.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
