I guess you can say it is all probably my fault.  I spoiled my babies; now they're paying the price.

My cat, "Gizmo", and my dog, "Precious", are both quite chubby.  "Gizmo", a Maine Coon, is a large cat anyway (it's part of the Maine Coon breed; Maine Coons, as a whole, weigh anywhere between 15 and 20 pounds); as for "Precious", she weighs fifteen pounds, which is extremely large for a Pomeranian (Pomeranians should weigh between three and seven pounds).  "Giz" weighs over 30 pounds.  He is absolutely massive!

I have been feeding them table scraps whenever they've been hungry.  That's in addition to their regular meals during the day.  I am sorry; I can't help but give in to them when they beg at the table when I am eating my supper or lunch, and I don't give them much anyway. 

My vet is very annoyed with me.  He has lowered the boom on me: he says that if I don't quit it, both animals could end up with seerious health issues, including arthritis, diabetes, and Lord knows what else.  Both are already showing signs of arthritis in their joints, and it's getting harder and harder for them to get around easily.

In addition to that, Giz has shown signs that he might be diabetic.  He's always drinking water out of his dish, and he pees a lot (usually in his box, but sometimes he misses; then I have to clean up his messes).  He also seems to lack energy and he sleeps a lot.

I wish I would have known that overfeeding my furry babies would be detrimental to their health; now I am faced with the possibility of lifelong troubles and neverending vet bills.  I have to weigh them every day and monitor their food intake, as well as write down what I have given them (and how much).  If I don't do what the veterinarian says, there's also the distinct possibility that I could have Giz and Precious taken away from me beause "I am not a responsible pet owner".

The thought of losing my furry friends is heartbreaking.  So now I have to put both of them on a diet, or else I can lose guardianship of them both.  It's a catch 22 situation: I want to help my pets get healthier, but at the same time, when they beg for food, I have to give in to them because I can't stand hearing their plaintive cries or seeing the soulful eyes whenever they look at me as I eat.
