A teenager with an unusual nickname shares his story.

Image (c) 2010, Karla Dorman.

My name is Eddington.  Paul Q. Eddington.  I am sixteen years old, and I live near Boston, Massachusetts, with my family.

I have my parents, John Quincy (dad) and Rosemary (mom); I also have two younger brothers, Steven (13) and Tyler (11), and one older sister, Kara Jane (19).  We also have an English bulldog named Harry.  He's 15; he's nearly my age.  He's really old.  He also has very bad breath and is lazy as all get out.

My family doesn't do this, but most of the kids call me "Cyclops".  It's not because I have one eye (I have two eyes just like anybody else); it's because my unruly hair flops in my face, and no matter how hard I try, I just can't get it to stay back.  One piece always flops right in front of my eye, so this is how I got christened the lovely nickname of "Cyclops" ....  lovely, my ass!!

My hair is very thick and black (not to mention, very wavy).

I have brown eyes and (gasp!) freckles; I take after my mom in the looks department.  My brothers and sister, meanwhile, take after dad, who is fair and hazel-eyed.  I look like I was adopted: I don't look like either my mom, my dad, or my brothers and sister.

I am your typical teenage kid:  that is, I love horror books (and movies), fast cars (muscle cars, too; I think they're cool!), hot babes (girls; nothing wrong with a little harmless girl watching; hey, a guy can dream, can't he??), playing video games, spending my time skateboarding, snowboarding, snow skiing (now that it's winter, I can do this!), watching TV (horror movies or sci-fi shows, mostly), and hangin' out with my friends from school on the weekends (that is, if I am not saddled down with homework!).

My dad is always telling me that he's gonna staple my hair back from my face; that way, it'd be out of my face.  OW!  Hurts just thinkin' of it! (((o.0)))

I get along with my family okay, but Kara Jane, my sister, does have her mood swings.  I swear she's bi-polar or something.  One  minute she can be as sweet as pie; the next: SUPER-BITCH!!!!  I am so glad she's gone back to her cave! (She lives in Columbus, Ohio.)

I really don't care for writing, but Mr. Prescott, my English Lit teacher, had us start doing journals, as a way to "flex our creative muscles".  (Gag me with a field mouse!)  So I have to do this.  Don't know how long this assignment will last, but Mr. Pee (as I call him) wants us to do this over a period of several months.  He said it shouldn't be too hard; we can take our journals (or portable laptop computers if we have one, in which I do) anywhere we go.  Then about mid-March or so, he wants us to turn 'em in, and see what's going on in our lives.

I don't want my teacher reading about ME!! Some of what I will write about may be personal information that I don't want to share!! (TMI!! TMI!! Alert!! Alert! TMI!! TMI!!)

Well,. I am gonna scoot, so I don't miss the damn bus again like I did yesterday (slept in; didn't get up until 7:40; mom had to drag my happy ass out of bed and drive me to school; she was NOT amused ... ).  I will write in here again soon; until later, this is Cyclops sayin' over and out! I'm outta here!

~Cyclops.

To be continued.

Poor kid. :( His frustrations clearly captured in these lines, Karen. Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Instead of stapling yer hair back, get a good old fashioned Buzz Cut, Cyclops! And give that lovable old bad breath bull dog of yours a hug for me.
