A poverty-stricken child enjoys his new shoes that he got for Christmas. It was all he wanted.

God does care for me.  He proved that in a big way by bringing me the shoes I wanted for Christmas.

I love my new shoes.  They are red with yellow laces.  They are really cool.  They might not be Nikes or Adidas, but they're new shoes just the same: better than the rags I wore on my feet.  Had some shoes, but they done fell apart long ago; had to tie rags and newspaper on my feet to keep 'em warm.

Now that winter time is here, warm feet are highly important to me.  Don't want frostbitten feet or toes; that would not be good, especially since I walk everywhere: to school, back and from my house, to church, the store ... just about anywhere you can think of.

My shoes are really neat.  It may seem silly to some people that I would get excited about a pair of shoes, but they gotta understand something.  I live in the projects here in Danville, New Jersey.  My fiolks, they ain't rich.  My pops is disabled (he stays home; he can't work), and mamma, she works two jobs to try to get the bills paid on time or have food on the table.  Now we do get help from the government (food stamps and SSDI for some of my brothers; they're disabled too), but it ain't nearly enough, so mamma has to work to make the money last longer.

I can't afford all the name-brand clothes or shoes.  A lot of  my homeboys, they got good shoes; me, I'm just happy with what I got.  I'm lucky to have a roof over my head and food in my belly every day.  I'm lucky I have a place to lie my head at night, and I'm lucky to have friends who walk with me when I go to school (or anywhere else).

Call me blessed.  I got what I wanted for Christmas: shoes.  I also got a basketball and food, but the shoes were what I wanted most of all.  Don't ask me why I wanted red shoes with yellow laces, but I did, and that's what I done got for Christmas; so I am a very happy camper.

I got penny loafers that I wear most of the time, but I 'spect they'll wear out their welcome soon.  They're already getting thin spots on them, and it won't be long before they become my Sunday shoes (hole-y.  Holy.  Get it?? LOL). So I am sure mamma will have to buy me (or my brothers) new shoes soon at the thrift store or at Goodwill.  Can't afford to shop at Wal*Mart or places like that.  Too expensive for our budget!

Well, I'm gonna enjoy my shoes some more and then play with my brothers before lunchtime.  Snow day; no school.  Got about five inches; more expected tonight.  Doubt we'll be going anywhere until some of the white stuff melts.  'Til then I and my brothers will be stuck inside with our pops.  Take care and may God bless you; He sure did when He gave me my cool shoes!! I just love them!!

How does the saying go about walking in another man's shoes? Here we are walking in another boy's shoes... Great, well done story, my friend.

So often the simple things are the best. Our grand kids have more fun with the boxes the toys came in than with the toys. Patrick
