     A boy shares his story.

Image of storm clouds and cross (c) 2010, by Karla Dorman.

Richard Hammons is my name, but most of my friends (and just 'bout everyone else) calls me "Rich".  I am twelve years old; I live with my family in Copperas Cove, Texas.

I have two sisters (Rachael and Regan) and one brother (Ryan); they are younger than me.  Rachael is ten while Regan is eight.  As for Ryan, he is only a year; he's just a baby.  I get along with Rachael okay, but I fight all the time with Regan, and I'm always getting mad at Ryan 'cause he's always into my things.  I have to keep my room locked at all times, or else the baby will dismantle it in just a matter of minutes.

I am in the sixth grade at Copperas Cove Elementary.  School is okay, I guess, but we have had some bad weather this winter (mostly due to ice, but some to snow), and now we have some days to make up.  We have to go to school on Good Friday this year (two days before Easter), which makes me mad, 'cause Good Friday is a holiday, and I don't think we should go to school on a known holiday.  If you ask me, that stinks!! :(

I am a typical boy.  That is, I love to play baseball (or watch it on tv; GO, Rangers!! They haven't lost a game yet!!), football, soccer, or softball, skateboard, play video games (my Wii system in particular), and check out the hot girls at school (though mama says I'm way too young to be thinkin' about girls!).  I love rap and rock music, and I love to play the drums (been playing drums since I was four years old).

In addition to that, I love to sing.  I sing in the church choir at church every Sunday and Wednesday (we're Pentecostal).  I accepted Christ into my heart when I was eight (Regan's age).  I can't imagine my life without Jesus; He's all I need!

When I grow up, I'd like to be a race car driver (go, Matt Kenseth!!), a professional baseballer, a lawyer, the President of the United States (my parents say I could do a better job than the clown we have in the White House now), a professional vocalist, a dancer, or an astronaut.  I have many dreams.  I'd also love to go to college and become a teacher to kids with special needs.  (I have a cousin, Maxie, who is in a wheelchair due to JRA; he's had it since he was like two years old, and he's always in pain.)

Well, I hate to run, but I gotta eat breakfast and then get ready to go to school.  I will write in here again soon; until later, this is Rich Hammons saying so long! God bless!

~Rich.
