Malcolm Asgood is my name. I live in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, with my wife, Emily, and our six children: Riley David (10), Giovonni Malcolm (9), Ellie Danielle (7), Kaitlyn Marissa (5), Enrique Danielo (3), and the baby, Carter Micah (1 1/2).
All of our children are adopted.
We tried to have children of our own, but were unable to; so, we turned to adoption. One is from China, Ellie; the others were born here in America.
The children were deemed as "unadoptable" because they were older, of another race, or had some type of special need. Yet through the miracle of adoption, they are ours, forever and ever.
I am an attorney; my wife, meanwhile, is a homemaker as well as a homeschool instructor. She stays home with the children while I go out and make the "big bucks". LOL
I specialize in divorce law. I work with people who can't make their marriages work; that is a huge fear of mine. I don't want to see our family end up in the same boat, so Emily and I try hard to keep our heads on straight and make our marriage work. So far, we have not had any trouble; it's only by God's grace that we have able to keep the marriage going and adding to our family. It was His will that we have children, so He brought Riley, Gio, Ellie, Kaitie, Enrique, and Carter into our lives.
We love our children very much. We would do anything possible to make sure that they are well cared for and happy. It isn't easy at times (especially when Carter, who has severe asthma, gets sick, or when Enrique, who has seizures, ends up in the hospital), but we manage. Em used to be a nurse, so she knows how to stay on top of things whenever sickness/disease threatens.
Em quit nursing three years ago when she became burned out on it, but she's never forgotten the skills she learned, which is a huge worry off of my mind! She's since started homeschooling the children when she pulled the oldest ones out of public school; she didn't like what the public schools were teaching the children, so she opted to teach them by herself.
Em has done a very good job. I am proud of her!
People oftentimes stare at our family because we have a child who is Oriental, as well as a little boy who is Hispanic, but other than that, most people are rather accepting of our family. They also stare because Enriuqe is in a wheelchair (due to cerebral palsy), but then Riley, our oldest, retorts back with "What you looking at? Take a picture; it'll last longer!"
That usually stops people in their tracks. He doesn't mean to be rude; he's just tired of all the stares or comments.
On Sundays, when I don't have an important case to work on, we attend church. We are Baptists. We go to Eau Claire Christian Fellowship, which is not far from our house. We love church; we get so much out of it; the children enjoy learning about Jesus and all the other denizens of the Bible.
