I don't know what we would do if we didn't have the Lord in our lives. Our lives would be a lot scarier, that is for darn tootin'!
My name is Guenevere Stevens-Broussard. I live in Pearland, Texas, with my husband, Corey, and our three angel-children: six-year-old Tessina (Tessie) Marie, four-year-old Colton Jaxon, and two-year-old Delphine Michelle. We also have a solid black Schipperke named "Bouncer"; he is the sweetest, most active little thing!
I am a homemaker and homeschool instructor; as for Corey, he works as a personal trainer at a local gym not far from where we live. We are very involved in our community and especially in our church. We are always doing something, it seems.
Two of our children (Colton and Delphine) have special needs. Delphine has Down syndrome; as for Colton, he has cerebral palsy, vision problems, and autism. Delphine is pretty healthy, as far as people with Down syndrome go (she does not have major heart problems, which is a huge answer to prayer!), but Colton, meanwhile, he is an accident waiting to happen.
Colton falls down a lot and has broken bones or sprained something more times than I can possibly count. He also has gastric reflux disorder and if he eats too much, he gets sick all over. I am always having to wipe up his messes and it gets pretty old real quick.
I am often the one who is left with the children because Corey is lways working; when he's not, he's either sleeping or we are helping with our church duties or talking to other parents who have children with special needs.
I sometimes feel like I'm the only one who is experiencing problems, but it is good to know I am not. I think my own children have serious problems. Maybe so, but there are plenty of others who have far worse problems than mine. I know a mother in my group who has a son who has a rare genetic disorder called Fragile-X syndrome and her son, aged eight, is "a holy terror", according to her. Another woman has a son who was born with part of his brain missing: he cannot do anything for himself and requires 24-hour care, day and night.
Another parent has a daughter who is an achondroplastic dwarf (normal sized trunk, shorter than normal arms and legs plus a rather large head) who has been in and out of the hospital for surgical procedures, and still another parent has a son who has AIDS. He isn't doing well at the present time.
When I think of people like these, suddenly my own life seems calm, serene, even though it is anything but. Colton makes sure of that. LOL Yet I have a strong faith, and when things are getting to me, this is when I go into my prayer closet and cry out to God to provide me with strength, in which He does. He never fails! Then I feel like I can take on the WORLD! :)
Even days when Colton ends up in the ER with another bone fracture or when Tessie needs another ECG done, I think I can handle it, which I often do. Sometimes I lose it, but lately, I find myself able to deal with anything that comes my way. I have become a much stronger person, and I owe it all to my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Without Him, I could not do the things I do; I give Him all the credit!
