Jaxon Adair, my little boy, continues to languish between life and death. His condition is no worse, yet it is no better either. It's like he is in limbo, and I can't tell the family members anything new because he remains about the same.
Jaxon, who is seven, cut himself while playing. He was playing on the swings in our backyard when he fell. He cut his knee, and later that night, I awoke to him moaning in bed. When I went to check on him, I'd found him with a raging fever and moaning in pain. He seemed very ill.
We took him to the ER; he was immediately admitted and prepped for surgery. Turned out Jax had a very rare and deadly bacterial infection called necrotizing fasciitis, or flesh eating disease. He had to have the gangrenous areas of his leg removed as soon as possible or else he could die in only a matter of hours. It was that serious.
Jax has had five surgeries since coming into the hospital; there are no guarantees he will even recover. Doctors say he could still die if complications develop. Jax remains in a drug-induced coma so his body can rest.
It is hard seeing him lying there, a sea of wires, tubes, and machinery surrounding him, with only the sounds of the breathing machine and heart monitors assuring us that he is even alive. We know he is getting the best possible medical care to help him beat this, but it is still difficult in not knowing whether he is going to be okay or not.
My husband, Jack, has been holding down the fort at home, watching over our dogs and our other child, Lexie, who is 11. Meanwhile, I stay here at the hospital, so I can be with Jaxon; I don't want to leave his side, in case something should happen (God forbid!).
As of this writing, Jax still has his leg (miracle of miracles), but he isn't out of the woods just yet. In fact, he is far from it. He faces a very long and difficult recovery; he also faces weeks, possibly months, of physical and occupational therapy, to build up lost strength.
I just wish he'd wake up or at least open his eyes, to let us know that he is there! I hate seeing Jaxon lying there like a corpse and I hate this, not knowing whether he is going to beat the necrotizing fasciitis! Keep those prayers coming; we would all greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance!
