     A boy shares his story.

My name is Harrison McElroy Thomas.  I am ten years old.  I am in the fifth grade (or am as of today; school started back up).  I live in Lake Tahoe, California, with my mom, dad, and twin sisters, who are younger: they are six and look just alike.  Sometimes I can't even tell them apart unless mom fixes their hair different or they dress up in different outfits.

We also have a cat, a huge chocolate-pointed Ragdoll, named Charlie.  He has big, vivid-blue eyes, long, silky cream-colored  fur, and a blaze down his forehead to his nose, not to mention, very long whiskers.  His paws are solid white; it looks like he stepped in a bowl of milk.  He is very cute and very friendly; he meows or purrs constantly!  We've had Charlie since he was a kitten; he's now three.

We did have a Chihuahua, a light tan one with short hair and bulging, dark eyes, but the Rottweiler down the street decided to use him as a chew toy and killed him.  Guess Paco (the Chihuahua) decided he thought that he was a pit bull, but Sweetie (the Rottie) guessed differently.  Tore Paco a new rear hole (and then some).  I miss him ...  this incident happened last summer, a year ago, and ever since, every time I see Sweetie, I want to kick HER for killing my dog!

Sweetie growls or barks at me.  She knows I don't like her.  Oh, well ... the feeling's mutual.  Glad the Ortegas keep her chained up; there's no telling what kind of damage she might do if she gets mad at another person or animal!

By the way, Charlie, our cat, stays inside.  Good thing; he'd melt with all that fur!  LOL  Plus he's declawed (he was this way when we got him; we didn't do it to him).  He'd have no way of defending himself if he got into trouble.

Anyway, back to my story.  I live in California, as I said, with my family.  I love to do many things, among them play basketball with my friends at the park down the street from us, skateboard, play baseball in the spring on a Little League team (this year our team sucked: we won something like two games and lost ten), play soccer, play computer games, write stories, annoy my twin ssiters (their names are Hannah and Heaven), and play with Charlie.

In addition, I love to ski, fish, hunt, and hang out with my friends on the weekends (or after school).  I have a very good life.

On Sundays, we go to church.  We go to an Assembly of God (nondenominational) church not far from where we live; we've gone there since I was small.  Mom, dad, and I all accepted Jesus Christ into our hearts; hopefully Heaven and Hannah will do the same when they are a little older.  I love singing or learning about God and Jesus and all the people of the Bible; it makes me feel good to know that when I die, I will go to Heaven to be with Jesus, forever and ever!  That is so cool!

Some of the kids tease me at school about my being a Christian, but I ignore them and/or walk away.  I try to be nice to everybody, but if they can't be nice back to me, then I don't want to have anything to do with them.  Better to be safe than sorry, you know??  Besides, God wouldn't want me getting mad or doing something I would probably regret later on.

Well, I gotta stop writing; my English class is about over.  This was my first assignment of the new school year: the teacher wanted us to write a "getting-to-know-you" story for her class.  I hope she likes my story.  Better yet, I hope YOU, out there in Cyber Land, like my story.  I enjoyed writing it.  Thanks for reading it!

~Harrison, age 10.
