"A little at a time". This is what my therapists keep telling me.
I am finally starting to feel a little stronger after weeks of being laid up in bed. About the only time I got out of bed was to go to my doctor's appointments. I just had major stomach surgery (gallbladder removal, also a stomach tumor removal). I was in the hospital for nearly three weeks.
I came home from the hospital last week. It was on a Wednesday afternooon.
Today is about the first time since coming home where I actually felt like doing something. Got tired of looking at the small pile of dirty dishes in the sink, so I decided to do them. It felt good to be on my feet again. I did manage to get the dishes washed, but it tired me out; I am now sitting in the livingroom, on the couch, resting as I write on my laptop.
My husband and teenaged daughter are sitting with me, asking me every ten minutes if I am okay. The poor dears. They have really been bending over backwards to make sure that I don't overdo and taking care of me whenever I need something. The therapists have been coming to the house (as has the home health care agency nurses), so our house is always full of people, it seems.
Hopefully next week I will be stronger to the point to where I will be able to go to church. I miss Pastor Rosenthal and I miss my fellow church family members. I miss the worship and the preaching and spending time in prayer and/or in the Word.
Members of the church I go to have been stopping by, bringing gifts: gifts of food. Get-well cards. Even money. I tell them not to give me money, but they think I need it, so they just say they are following the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Who is one to argue with the Holy Spirit? I know I'm not one, so I am relegated to accept their small blessing. I'm to take the blessing and enjoy God's goodness, so I try to, although at times I wonder what I may have done to deserve it.
God works in mysterious ways ....
Well, I am tired, so I am going to sleep for a while. When I wake up, Dick (he's my husband) will probably be at church while London (my daughter; she's 14 1/2, soon to be 15 in January of next year) stays home with me, in case I should happen to need anything. Hopefully I will be able to eat something; haven't really had much of a appetite since getting sick or being in the hospital. I'm thankful that the surgery/hospital stay is behind me now as I recover. Most of all, I'm just thankful to be home! Home! What a beautiful word!! :)
