A boy writes about vacations and why they're not what they're cracked up to be.

A vacation.  What exactly IS a vacation, anyway, especially since I haven't had one since I was a little boy??

My parents both work constantly.  They are driven, successful people who feel that they have to work for a living.  Meanwhile, that leaves me to entertain myself and my younger brother (my brother has Down syndrome and acts a lot younger than what he actually is).

I'm not complaining, but dang, I would like to go somewhere ONCE in a while ... like, perhaps, Disneyworld in Florida or to Niagara Falls in Canada or something!  I would like it if grandma or grandpa could come and watch Ethan instead of having ME to watch him all the time!

I hear about all my friends going on wonderfully exciting trips, if not from the horse's mouth, per se, but from Facebook or Twitter.  I then get jealous and wish it were ME going on these trips instead of THEM.  I get mad at mom and dad for working so much and I get mad at Ethan for being the way he is, thus, causing stress upon the family.

Maybe mom and dad are working so much to pay off Ethan's medical bills, I don't konw, but as for me, I don't like it!  It wouldn't kill mom or dad to take a break once in a while so they can take care of things at home instead of working, working, and working som more!!  I would call them as neglectful parents because they are neglecting probably the two most important things in their lives: US, their children!!

I sometimes wish that Ethan had never been born.  We could have had a normal childhood.  Then he came along and it's been nothing but work or "Ethan this or Ethan that"!  I look at his soft, doughy, round face and I want to punch his lights out, especially when he acts all dopey and shit!  I sometimes think that Ethan is the reason why we don't go anywhere because our parents are embarrassed by him!  It's really sad!!

Sad ... I remember growing up: can we go here? Next year. Can we go there? Maybe next year. Seemed like next year never came ... well done, Karen.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
