This is one of those times where I wish that Ken didn't have to go to work. I mean, he puts his life on the line each and every time and I worry constantly about his safety and well-being.
Well, last night, during a disturbance at a local tavern, Ken got shot, not once but twice. He is currenlty in the hospital, fighting for life, in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He got shot in the belly and in the back. He is, as of now, unconscious (plus the doctors and nurses have him intentionally knocked out, so he doesn't pull out the tubes or monitors). He is in critical condition.
He was in surgery until 11 this morning, according to the doctor in charge. Right now he is holding his own, but he is in very critcial condition. It is too soon to tell if there has been permanent damage to his intestines or his back; they will know more when Ken wakes up, probably in a few days.
Until then, all I or the family (or his co-workers) can do is wait and hope.
And pray.
I don't know what I would do if I were to lose Ken. Ken and I have been married for the past ten years. Ever since I have known him, he has been a cop, a reputable member of "Nashville's Finest". This is certianly not the first time he has come to be in danger, but until last night, he managed to keep from getting injured (or worse), which had bene a huge answer to prayer. Then a guy trying to elude Ken (and his partner) retaliated by shooting Ken in the back and stomach and forcing other members of the squad to quickly take action before anyone else got hurt.
It has been a very long night and an even longer morning. I am more than ready for this nightmare to end, but knowing it won't until Ken wakes up ... IF he even wakes up. I just wish there was more that I can do to help my husband while he is here. It is a helpless feeling and right now we both can use all the prayers we can possibly get!
I will write in here again soon, probably within the next few days, with an update on Ken's condition. Hopefully I will know more and hopefully Ken didn't sustain too much in the way of permanent damage to his stomach or his spinal cord.
~To be continued.~
