I don't know what I am going to do without Mother's guiding force in my life...
Mother died last week in a car accident. She was driving home from her bridge club at the church when a truck driven by a drunk driver plowed into her small white-and-black Smart car. Mother was killed instantly; the driver, badly hurt (but he'll probably survive. Seems drunks always do.) He'll face plenty of charges, no doubt.
Unless they give him a slap on the wrist, like most people who get a DUI.
Mother was only 63 years old. The man that hit her was maybe in his middle twenties and should have never been behind the wheel.
According to the police reports, the guy was three sheets to the wind: he was blind drunk.
Mother's funeral was only yesterday, leaving me and my three brothers (and our father, her husband) in a state of mind-numbing shock and disbelief.
Only on Sunday of last week we were talking about Thanksgiving plans and what we were going to do for the upcoming Christmas holidays. All that has been taken away from us, thanks to the irresponsibility of a young man who didn't care of his actions when he got behind the wheel of his truck (or maybe he did; I don't know).
The following day, Monday, Mother was killed, leaving us to pick up the pieces of our suddenly shattered lives.
We have to take responsibility of not only going through Mother's things, but to try to bring comfort to her stricken husband, who is as devastated as we are (he is probably even more so: after all, that was his wife; they just celebrated 40 years of marriage last month).
We are very worried about what this is going to do to Daddy, since his own health isn't that good as it is.
We are trying to be strong for Daddy's sake, but all of us feel like falling apart oruselves. All we have to do is mention Mother's name or think about her and we all end up collapsing in a torrent of tears.
We are trying to look to God in our time of grief, but we find it hard to do so. Mother was such a kind-hearted, strong Christian woman with a strong, unshakeable faith; she wouldn't have hurt a fly. Why would God suddenly take her away from us?? What did we ... she ... DO to deserve this???
Why Mother?? Why not someone who was nasty, mean-spirited, or one who intentionally hurts others in a cruel, malicious way?? Why couldn't someone like that have gone instead of our beautiful Mother???? Our world has been rocked and it will never be the same ever again!
