Humble, Texas, November 2011~
Seth and I (Minnie) have returned home, but not without a price: our home was destroyed by wildfires that burned several months ago; we got out with nothing but the clothes upon our back, a few sparse belongings, and of course, Seth's wheelchair and crutches. (Seth is disabled.) It could have very easily been a lot worse ...
We just thank God we got out, but we are now living in Humble, Texas. We are getting rain here; currently our area is under a severe weather threat (thunderstorms and even possible isolated tornadoes). I'm not complaning, though: as long as we get desperately needed rain, then I'm happy; I just don't want any weather-related damage to compound the problems we already have had when we lost our house!
We have found an apartment for lower-income people. It's not a bad place but we are still trying to get ourselves settled in. We have met some of the neighbors and some seem right nice, but I really haven't made what you would call "close friends" just yet.
The Red Cross and several local churches have reached out their hands and hearts to help the fire victims get resettled into new homes or apartments or providing us with nonperishable foods, water, soda, etc. and even financial blessings, which have come in handy. The help we have receieved has been nothing short of overwhelming; it is enough to make me bust out crying all over again!!
Seth has been setlled into his new school but I worry about whether the kids will make fun of him. I hope and pray not; Seth has been through so much and it breaks my heart wide open when kids treat him bad! He didn't ask to be born disabled; it just happened as he was being formed inside my body. (He was born with spina bifida and is partially paralyzed from the waist on down.)
If I ever hear of any kids picking on Seth, I will go to the school myself and just beat the holy hell right out of 'em! My son is a person too; he deson't deserve to be treated like a dog (or worse)!
And now with the ongoing fire-related nightmares and stress we both face, the last thing Seth (OR I) need is people picking on a poor, defenseless child who happens to be physically disabled!!
Well, the sirens are sounding so that must mean one of two things: a.) a funnel has been sighted, or b.) there's a tornado on the ground. In any event, we have to find shelter and hunker down until the all-clear has been given or the storm has passed. Hopefully we will emerge from this stormy period without too many problems; just keep us in your prayers and pray we come through this in one piece! I would greatly appreciate it as would Seth! Thank you in advance!!
