Colbie Colbert here. Thought an update was way past overdue, so here goes nothing ...
When I last wrote, I was expecting our fourth child. Another little girl, which we were going to call Emma-Kate. Well, Emma-Kate arrived safe and sound; am very happy to report that she is perfectly healthy and has grown into a beautiful little tot who is learning to walk and talk. So now we have four children: three girls (Emma-Kate, Kaitlyn Ashley [almost 9], and Diamond [10]) and one boy (Granger [3]).
Kaitlyn has been doing fairly well, but next month she faces yet another heart surgery: she has a leaky valve that needs to be replaced. She will probably be in the hospital for a week, then faces a long, painful recovery at home.
We are understandably nervous about it, but we are trusting in God to get us through this upcoming venture. Unfortunately, Kaitie is no stranger to heart surgery: she's had several and faces maybe a few more before all is said and done.
Happily, other than tiredness and some shortness of breath, Kaitie is a happy, resourceful little girl. She loves to play with her big sister and little brother (and baby sister), as well as with the cat (we got an American Ringtail cat we named "Scrubby"; it is chocolate brown and is the cutest little thing!), watch Nick Jr. and Playhouse Disney on tv, and is learning to read/write. She is content with being with her family; around stranges she turns very quiet and shy in nature.
Diamond has racked up awards in voice and in dancing; she is our resident "performer". God has gifted her with a strong singing voice and natural abilities for dance and acting. If all goes well she will be trying out for the local production of "Annie", which will run this summer as part of the summer children's concert series.
Granger is being ... well, Granger. Full of spit and vinegar: he is all boy; nothing stops him, even falling from a tree, which he did last week. He i sstill sporting a good-sized goose egg on his forehead and two black eyes which are finally starting to fade. Scared us stupid; we thought he had been killed, but once he woke up, he was asking the nurses and the doctors for a pizza! LOL He did have a king-sized headache though, which took some of the edge off of his mischief-making ways, so for that, we were grateful! LOL
Van and I are busy getting ready for Mardi Gras, which is going to be in full swing this weekend. Tomorrow we are participating in one of the local parades and we plan on taking the kids to the carnival. Tomorrow (Sunday) is church; then it's back to the Mardi Gras revelrie come Monday and Tuesday if the weather holds out; there's some chance of rain come Monday and Tuesday, which could put a bit of a damper on things.
Well, that is about all that is new; I am going to go back to bed. Was up because Emma-Kate decided that she was thirsty (plus she needed a diaper change; her bed is soaked, so I am doing a load of laundry as well!). When the laundry is done, I will have to make Emma-Kate's bed and put her back in it; hopefully she will go back to sleep. Right now, though, she is bright-eyed and bushy-tailed; she is currently chasing "Scrubby" around the living room!
