Hard to believe that it's nearly August. Last I wrote was in May, just before Mother's Day. Two months have passed.
We are doing as well as can be expected, considering the circumstances. Our son, Jacob Ibrihiam, who will be four in November, is still eluding predictions pinned on him by his doctors: he is still kickin' as best as he knows how and still loves life to the fullest. He continues to remain healthy, which has been an answer to all our prayers.
I am praying to Yeshua that this continues.
We know any time the ball can drop, but for now, while Jacob remains healthy, we will relish in it and enjoy it.
Our other child, our daughter, Rachel, who is six, loves helping us take care of Jacob. She is very good and can even handle his tube feedings! She can squirt the liquid (or medication) right into his G-tube with the essence of a pro: heaven knows, she's had a lot of practice watching us, her Mommy and Daddy, do it! She loves rubbing his back and singing to him while we change his diapers or dress/undress him. She is very sweet to her brother. We are very proud of Rachel!
We are still praying that Jacob makes it to four, and right now, it looks like he has a good shot at it. We knoew every day could be his last so we celebrate his life as if it were and we give him plenty to do, experience, and enjoy. Like on July 1, Canada Day, as an example: our city had a huge festival, complete with parade, live music, contests, free food, and fireworks, and Jacob had a blast (pun intended). He squealed, laughed, and sang in his off key way; he was really into it!
When the fireworks went off, he laughed and waved his arms the whole time. And the music was enough to get him bouncing in his wheelchair. Didn't matter if it was rap, Cajun, gospel, country, or rock and roll: as long as it was music, he was gonna dance, Jacob Ibrihiam Rosenblatt style! And he did! :)
Two weeks ago, we went to Niagara Falls Wonderland in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada; we took the kids on the merry-go-round and on the old fashioned cars and the duck boat on the lake; they loved every minute. Again, Jacob laughed like there was no tomorrow! Everybody who saw him loved him and we loved how everybody respected our wishes by not staring, pointing, or making rude comments. We may have to take a return trip to Niagara Falls soon!
We live in Toronto.
Tonight promises even more fun for Jacob, as well as Rachel, Beth, and myself. The auoras are said to be out; there is a geomagnetic storm warning and strong auroras are possible here in Canada. So we will be watching the skies tonight and tomorrow night. Jacob will enjoy the show; he loves it when the aurora borealis dances in our skies!
I do feel a little sad, though: when he loses his sight, he will no longer see the fireworks or the aurora borealis. That will be a very dark day for us, indeed. Yet for now, while Jacob can see, we will try to give his eyes as much stimulation and enjoyment as we possibly can!
