A lot of people think that I should stay home and feel sorry for myself because I can't walk that well without braces on my legs or crutches.  Well, they don't know me very well: not even a little thing called spina bifida is not gonna keep ME from having the time of my life!

I can't let my disability rule me.  I am more than my disability: much more.  I'm just like anybody else, just have had more hospitalizations (or surgeries) t han most people, but between that, I still love to have fun.  That is why you'll find me at the fairs or amusement parks riding the rides: and the wilder they are, the better!

The only problem I face is this: trying to walk after the fact, once I disembark off the ride.  LOL  Thank God I have my fiancee' to help me (and besides, when we are AT a fair or amusement park, I opt to use my wheelchair)!  We also get the giggle-fits whenever I get off the rides: the rides bring out the little kid in us, even though we are both in our middle twenties.

My favorite rides are Twister (this flat ride that has a lot of spinning action; if you happen to get the seat that spins, you can get very dizzy or disoriented with a quickness), Storm (same way; it's like the Scrambler on crack/heroin), and the Orbiter (another one guaranteed to mess with your equilibrium).  I never tire of the thrill in watching the scenery tilt or turn into a constant blur of lights, motion, or sound!  

My fiancee' laughs at me whenever I try to get off.  She says I walk like a crab and she has to hold tightly onto my arm or else I'm likely to end up on the ground in a pile.  I then have to try to walk on my crutches and I'm dragging her along, sideways; it is the funniest thing!  Sometimes we've both ended up on the ground, just laughing our fool heads off.

We are like two little kids in a candy store whenever we go to the local amusement park or county fair.  We can act stupid or silly without anybody saying anything or getting annoyed; I've seen seemingly stuffed shirts turn into little boys or girls as they ride rides like the Tilt-A-Whirl (or, as my fiancee' calls it, the Tilt-A-HURL!), the Twister, the Storm, or the Octopus.  We always have the best time together!

I just wish people could see past my disability and see that deven despite it I can still have fun, just like anybody else!  That's probably what stresses me out the most, but it's sure great to be able to relieve some of that pent up emotion or anger by riding the wildest rides known to man!
