A flash fiction question: At what point does existence become something else?

Reality Becoming…

Six floors up

Adrift in Hotel Paradise’s Monday-Night-Special

You vacation with HBO’s newest holographic VR fantasy

And smile

You encourage Cindy

Your instant Designer Servant of sorts

To rub more scented oil on your chest

You adjust your head piece

Boost the sun’s temperature

Slide the credit card for another fifteen minutes

And continue lounging atop the warm tropical sands

Working on your tan

While below

Real time seems to remain the same

As an incessant drizzle

Leaves streets puddled and darkened

Cops in their parked cruiser nod off

Giving no mind to rain changing to snow

Drifts emerging

Visibility vanishing

Shadows hold vigil across the street

Ghostly storefronts await

A brick through the window

A lock picked easily

Another homeless passing out at the doorjamb

A liquor store being held up

Punks in ski caps

For identities in perpetual fear

Just another day

For the privileged

Just another night

Or day

Or week

Month

Their reality becoming…

An interesting look at the great divide - what money can buy and what it cannot - what luxury is and what it can never be. The mentality that feeds each side of the coin betrays itself starkly here.
Thought-provoking!

So this is flash fiction... and our future? I don't buy the "sliding" of the credit card--totally unnecessary any more. VR is coming whether we like it or not. Our youth are being trained on ever more realistic video games. Tanning salons, designer duds and Starbucks are so successful because people want to step out of their dreary lives into fantasy of wealth and privilege.

Got my best tanning hunting in the snow at 20 degrees below zero.
