This is Gemini. Gemini Sandusky. But I am not here to write about our family so much this time (although they WERE with me during the event of which I am about to share with you now).
Instead I am going to write about the Leonid meteor shower that went on last night and early this morning (I missed the ones last night because we were all getting ready for bed; we had to get some sleep for school today). But we DID get up an hour early (thanks to maman); and she bundled us all up into our coats and gloves; and we all trooped outside, to our backyard, where we saw the most amazing sight!
The sky was crystal clear; stars as far as you could possibly see; and every few seconds (or so it seemed), a sudden bright streak of light, as thin as a needle, would shoot across the sky. It was absolutely SPECTACULAR! Each and every time a meteor would shoot across the sky in a bright white or yellowish arc, we would all gasp out loud, kinda' like if we were watching fireworks on July 4th. You know the kind of reaction I am talking about..that of total surprise and delight.
We were outside for a good hour; we would have stayed out even longer, but then Johnny started whining that he had to go pee; and Jodie threw up (we could hear her in the darkness), so we had to go back inside. But in that hour we must have seen at least 200 or 300 meteors!!
It was a sight we would ALL remember for a long time. It was the best meteor shower I had ever seen in my life!!
(The meteor shower was caused by fragments of pieces of tail from a comet or other debris floating around in space. The Leonid meteor shower is an annual event; it occurs about the middle of November for a few nights. But those who see it are forever mesmarized by those shooting streaks of light! I know I sure was!!)
